No disrespect to the dead, but NOBODY was calling Patrice the best when he was alive.

When you say NOBODY, are you talking media or other comics? Because media definitely did not think so him but other comics considered one of the greats. Chris Rock even said he wasn't funnier than him, more successful but not funnier. I've followed dude's career since '01 and comics revered ( the ones who didn't hate him that is, even then they knew he was funny) Patrice he was genuinely funny.

Nah, I'm talking about fans and the general public. Nobody on this site (well, SOHH) or other sites or anywhere else was calling him the best. People thought he was funny, but once he died he turned into the GOAT.
Well thats because he didn't have the same exposure other comics did. He wasn't in the limelight and thus his material never reached the masses as it should, doesn't take away from the fact that his career is littered with comedic gems. The Roast of Charlie Sheen put him over in the sense that people were able to see a smart, boisterous black comic who didn't turn to the typical joke to get a laugh. And when he got that exposure his work on Black Phillip ( where many SOHH/COLI heads refer to him as GOAT because of his unadultered look at relationships and women),Opie and Anthony, Elephant in the Room, Comicview, HBO One Night Stand became evident to new fans who took it and appreciated. Patrice was in comedy since 89/90 comedians who came up with him in the circuit Cook, Burr etc knew dude was great, the fans were late with their praise, but they aren't wrong.
