I can't think of one rapper other than him and Snoop that finished 2 record contracts as planned.

E-40 finished his deal(s) on Jive & Warner

Too Short finished his deal with Jive as well.

I believe the same for Master P & Priority.

Nas had singles/ videos for Bye Baby and Cherry Wine AFTER the album released and I'm not sure, but I think he's filming/filmed a video for Loco-Motive as well. I felt Nas's promotion for Life Is Good was very well done, anticipation for the album had been building steadily since he dropped Nasty a year prior...

He made a video for Queens Story after the album came out as well, however I think Nas used his own money to make that video though :ehh:

He should stay with Def Jam....

Why go to any other major label? Atlantic sucks, Universal is the home of Wayne, Birdman, Drake and the "whatever's hot at the moment" movement and didn't promote Distant Relatives AT ALL. He's already been on Sony (and as stated on HHID he's not going back) With Def Jam he's three number 1 albums deep, 2 have gone gold and LIG will follow, several Grammy nominations, and an Emmy award win. Def Jam pretty much has allowed Nas to be the artist he wants to be (aside from the Lost Tapes 2 fiasco:sadbron:) why not stick with them?

Going independent for an artist of Nas's stature isn't really necessary. His last deal netted him him $10 million, he tours (co-owns Guerrilla Union which does Rock The Bells) has endorsements (Fila, Gap, etc.) the whole nine. Don't allow the fact that he's knee deep in tax debt obscure the fact that he's paid, he'd only OWE that much if he WAS paid.

As far as sub-labels and imprints. NONE of those labels have what it takes to sign a legend like Nas. MMG, Young Money, Cash Money, NONE of them could sniff his boots. The ONLY label that would even seem to be a fit musically and professionally would be GOOD Music, and on Def Jam he already has access to Kanye West/NO I.D. Beats if he wants them. Damn near ANY producer in the game would give their left nut to be on a Nas album. No imprint could do him justice....

:ehh:

Either way he's not resigning to def jam. Doesn't he have one more full-length album due under DJ?

Still a very small list. One thing that e-40, Snoop, Master P, Nas etc all have is that they are innovators in their own right. More proof that artists gotta break ground, sometimes against record label wishes, to have a great career.

In the Billboard interview he did around July for Life is Good, they asked the main exec about Nas leaving Def Jam and they said he was planning to stay and that Def Jam was "very much in the Nas business"..whatever that means.

Let's be real: Nas will probably go to whoever gives him the biggest advance and the biggest team. Which means he'll probably stay with Def Jam. A hungrier Nas could do very well with some type of indie deal but that's not who he is. He wants the team, the comfort, the nice hotels/resorts etc that major label life guarantees for artists like him.
