Nope. There's a place for what many southern artist were releasing back in the 2000s. There was also a place for lyricism in rap that was prevalent in NY.
Blame NY radio host and DJs for not pushing it to the forefront.
Lyricism came back into play in the 2010s as well for what it's worth.

The south just did their thing, they put their own spin on hip hop and despite all the criticism they made great contributions along the way. The mistake was every region east, west, midwest etc adopting the south's sound, beats and cadence.
Cause people were being unoriginal and just dikkriding what's popular (which most do).
