Opening weekend was always going to be big domestically but this clearly doesn't have marathon legs to turn profit...
Only question is how big of flop is it going to be...
I mean they wouldn't be too far off the mark here. Racism IS a factor, not the only one, but one nontheless. This film has gotten massive hate worldwide ever since Halle was cast, and that was damn near 2 years ago. It is still going on despite the girl showing she can act and sing the part exceptionally well.
Again Black Panther also had to be carried domestically too

huh? Black Panther made $1.3B worldwide. $600M of that came from overseas theaters. That's a lot of overseas money.
And the Fast series is the opposite. It does "ok" in the United States but excellent everywhere else and the trades credit that to having a diverse cast.

BP proved they'd be VERY FAR off....That film grossed over 1.3 billion world wide, $650 million internationally...BP2 is sitting at almost $900 million currently, half of that from the international market...Neither film was carried domestically...I mean they wouldn't be too far off the mark here. There is a BIG difference between BP and the TLM...The black characters in BP are legit, not tokenized race swaps...Apparently they even race swapped the white princes mother in TLM? Why bruh? Why ???

The Anomaly Beat Em All. 'Spider-Man' Blows a Hole in the Multiverse and the Projections: Weekend Box Office Results (Jun. 2-4)
It's been five years but Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally here. This Spider-Man strikes with venom and strikes gold to the tune of a $120.5M opening weekend.
The projections kept getting it wrong. I saw $90M earlier in the week. Then it was just shy of $100M. Then it was $113.5M. All wrong.
We can thank the $17.35M in Thursday previews, which turned into a $51.85M Friday. That opening day total is the 3rd highest opening day for a Spider-Man movie, only bested by No Way Home's $121.9M and Spider-Man 3's $59.8M.
It's also the best opening day this year, beating The Super Mario Bros. Movie's $31.7M which came on a Wednesday, and the recently released Guardians 3's $48.1M.
It doesn't stop there. This is the second biggest opening of the year, trailing only The Super Mario Bros. Movie's $146.3M. Guardians 3 opened in 4,450 theaters, compared to Spider-Verse 2's 4,313, and still lost out to Miles and the gang with a $118.4M opening weekend.
Across the Spider-Verse just had one of the best animated openings ever. It sits seventh behind Incredibles 2 ($182.6M), Super Mario Bros. ($146.3M), Finding Dory ($135M), Frozen 2 ($130.2M), Shrek 3 ($121.6M) and Toy Story 4 ($120.9M).
I should probably mention Into the Spider-Verse, which opened with $35.3M way back in December 2018. So Across the Spider-Verse's $120.5 is looking at a 241% increase.

The next three spots were all filled by Disney, starting with The Little Mermaid's $40.6M. Down 57.5% from it's debut, it's swimming in a similar manner to Aladdin, which was down 53.2% in its 2nd weekend when it took home $42.8M. Internationally, it's only made $140.5M, with just $2.5M from China. Aladdin grossed $53.4M there.
Looking at the domestic / international splits, Aladdin was at 33.7% domestic / 33.7% internationally. Ariel is the reverse, with 57% of its gross coming domestically and 43% internationally. 
Debuting in 3rd place was 20th Century Studios' The Boogeyman, with $12.3M. The Stephen King adapted horror pic scored a B- CinemaScore, which was better than 20th Century's Barbarian, which nabbed a C+ last year, en route to a $10.5M opening weekend. That was good for #1 when it released in September. It went on to make $40.8M. Maybe The Boogeyman can have similar legs. It stars Sophie Thatcher, who was somehow looking better in Yellowjackets season 2 than she did in season 1, despite being trapped in the wilderness even longer.
And shout out to the paisan Chris Messina. He's in there, too. I remember him from Damages, one of my favorite shows and I just started watching Sharp Objects where he plays an out of town detective.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continues to hold well with another $10.3M, which was enough to jump back ahead of Fast X in its fifth weekend.
Tumbling down to fifth place was Fast X with $9.2M. It's now playing in fewer theaters than Guardians 3 while only being in its 3rd week of release.
But, hey, overseas is where it's at for this franchise, and it's made $474.8M internationally with $110.7M from China alone. That has helped Vin and company carve out $603.2M. But this is the domestic box office thread. So I would remiss if I didn't mention that Fast X's $128.4M only account for 21.3% of its running total thus far. 
Vin, it's time to learn Chinese, buddy.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the 19th highest grossing movie of all time at $1.3B, clearing Frozen's $1.28B. Next up? Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's $1.31B.
With another $233K, Evil Dead Rise, has now crossed $67M.

Yeah, great opening for Spider-verse and the positive reception should only help its legs going forward.

Well deserved. Been giving Sony a lot of shyt when they put stuff out like Morbius and Venom 2, but right behind Lord and Miller, they deserve major props for turning Miles Morales into a household name.

it seems you are literally the only person on this forum who has mentioned this movie (I’m assuming you’re referencing the 2023 flick)…I was looking for something to watch and saw them advertising it on prime (to rent/buy)…came here t get some feedback but there’s no thread or mention of it other than your post…is it good?
deciding on either buying this OR watching “whiplash” (free)
hmm maybe I’ll watch the “northman”…wouldn’t mind a good violent movie…it’s about vikings so I’m at least hoping it’s violent
