Oh I guarantee they do. They know how many were admitted in the theater when the ticket taker scans your ticket / phone.
It's no different than a sporting event. I remember years ago, the Red Sox would announce their sellout streak during every home game. And you would look around likethere's two thousand empty seats. Y'all ain't let 37,000 people through the gates. But all those games were sold out, technically. Some people weren't tryna fight Boston traffic at 6:30 to go see a mediocre Sox team play on a Wednesday night.
And so the Red Sox ended up with all the ticket revenue and got to say we've sold out 820 games in a row despite their being 7,000 empty seats. And now Angel Studios can do the same.
No... They have no fukking idea. I'm not even joking. How many theaters scan your ticket with some type of electronic scanner when going in? Not many.. Most sell you the ticket on or offline, then ask to LOOK at it and point you to the theater. They are not counting is neither is anything else.
Now some chains might be doing this and they'd know.. But we talking on a global scale.. The reporting in would be so small, it's not even worth tracking.. And that's why unlike sports games, you'll never hear a single stat about this, because it doesn't exist

The Monday numbers were crazy too. Heard it was something like 'Barbie' $27M and Oppenheimer $14M. That looks good for their second weekend.

That shyt ain't happening here. 'Oppenheimer' still got the IMAX and 'Barbie' still got the other large screens. Nobody gives a fukk about Mansion. Another Disney blunder.

It's like that here, too. Oppie has IMAX, Cinemark XD and Showcase X Plus. Barbie has Cinemark XD and Showcase X Plus. Haunted Mansion only has Dolby Cinema at AMC and standard showings near me. It's the same in Boston.

the plan for Haunted Mansion is for it to release on D+ in October
but they just can't drop it on there because of production contracts

What's at the Movies this Weekend (Jul. 28-30)
In the midst of Barbie and Oppenheimer making $350M combined in 6 days, we actually have 2 new movies releasing this weekend. Disney's Haunted Mansion, will play in 3,740 theaters. Box Office Pro had it doing $28M. The Eddie Murphy one did $24.2M when it opened in November of '03. The previews ain't looking too good right now. It's looking like this near me:
11 seats sold at the AMC.
Only 10 at the Cinemark.
Reviews ain't looking good: 40% rotten on the TOMATOMETER. Maybe that's why Justin Simien, the director, is out of the Lando series, and Donald and Stephen Glover are now writing that series.

The other new release is the A24's, Talk to Me. I saw this trailer the last couple of times I went to the movies and it didn't do anything for me. I'm chalking it up to it being an Australian production. Sorry, mate.

Is it over for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One? It loses 1,130 theaters. It'll be playing in fewer theaters than Sound of Freedom's 3,411.

It's Still Bombs Away for Barbenheimer: Weekend Box Office Results (Jul. 28-30)
It's still a Barbie world. With $93 million, it just secured the seventh biggest 2nd weekend of all time. It just edged out the $92.3 million The Super Mario Bros. Movie. That number is astronomical but it was still $10 million shy of The Avengers' $102 million total in 2012.
Barbie's $351.4 million running total is just behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie's $353.1 million after 2 weekends. So it is just 0.5% off the pace. Of course, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still in theaters; it just made $40,000 this weekend. It's got a $574.1 million running total, so I'd look for Barbie to finish our at that number. Maybe a little worse since Mario had a 36.9% 2nd weekend hold.Can Barbie pass Mario's $1.35 billion worldwide total, which is the 15th best of all time, passing Black Panther's $1.34 billion? With $774.5 million after 2 weeks, I'm thinking it could do $1.5 billion. Furious 7 made $1.51 billion. It's in 11th place all time and finished with $353 million domestically, a number that Barbie will eclipse tomorrow.
Oppenheimer held almost as strong as Barbie, with only a 44% drop for a $46.2 million second weekend. That's the 81st biggest 2nd weekend, knocking off last Summer's Minions: The Rise of Gru's $46.1 million. Oppenheimer's $174 million 2 week running total eclipses Indy 5's $167 million after 5 weeks. It's crushed M:I-7, which made $118.6 million after 2 weekends. Oppenheimer made $117.8 million after 6 days.
Oppenheimer's $400.3 million worldwide running total passes Tenet's $365.3 million lifetime. It's on the verge of passing Dunkirk's (my least favorite Nolan film) $189.7 million lifetime domestic gross. Nolan bombing on himself. 
We get to the new movie Haunted Mansion, which debuted in third place with $24.2 million. That is just behind the 2003 Eddie Murphy version, which opened with $24.27 million. Of course the Eddie Murphy version open to $40 million when adjusted for inflation. Thank God Disney filmed this in Louisiana and got them tax breaks to drop the production budget from $160 million to $120 million. Maybe the new one will have better legs with its B+ CinemaScore, which just beat out 2003's B. I'll catch it on Disney Plus around Halloween.
It's gonna be "DO NOT ENTER" the movie theater for me.
Sound of Freedom took 4th place with $12.4 million. The theaters may have been empty but the tickets were sold.
with $148.9 million running total it will pass $150 million tomorrow. That is crazy. It's added theaters every weekend and nobody's in the theaters. 
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One rounded out the top five with $10.7 million in its 3rd weekend. That's worse than Elemental's $12.1 million 3rd weekend.
Its $139.2 million after 3 weeks just edged out Rogue Nation's $138.3 million. We'll just conveniently ignore that that equals $177 million when adjusted for inflation. 
Rogue Nation ended its run with $195 million domestic and $682.7 million worldwide. What about Fallout? It made $161.3 million after 3 weekends. That puts Dead Reckoning 13.7% off the pace. So a finish somewhere in the $190 million+ seems plausible. Right in the line with the $192 million franchise average.Hang in there, Mr. Hunt.
Notables
Talk to Me debuted with an impressive $10 million. It's B+ CinemaScore tied Scream 6's. Still have no interest in seeing it but that's a great debut.
With $174.3 million, Insidious: The Red Door, is the highest grossing global entry in the Insidious franchise, chopping down The Last Key's $172.8 million.
No Hard Feelings crossed the $50M mark with $50.1M.
