NPR said there hasn’t been a male R&B superstar since Usher. Is this true?

You said vocal skills “and discography”, lil bytch

Chris brown’s content/production is the only conversation. Vocals?! He can sing well enough. That’s not the deciding metric for superstar r&b anyway.
Im a lil bytch but you the one in your feelings over CB....lol ok tough guy :mjlol:

When has the singing voice not been the deciding factor lmao. Boy yall boys be exposing yourselves

Nobody has the staying power Usher has had. It’s not like he’s Lauryn Hill riding 30 years off 1 album. Dude carried the Super Bowl and didn’t even have time to go into some of his biggest hits (he did 15 seconds of Nice n Slow :wow: ).

If we are going to name a successor to MJ, like it or not…..it’s Usher :manny:

Nobody can hang with him (currently) on multi-decade album sales, dancing/singing or tossing Usher bucks at hoes getting them in they feelings :dead:

Yea hoe

And singing voice is part of the equation but ain’t never been the deciding factor.

Plenty of singers sing technically better than Prince. But his overall musicianship shyts on them. Latoiya Williams (google her) sings technically as well or better then any woman you can name. But her music, production, melodies, etc make her a no name. Minnie Ripperton has quite possibly the greatest voice you’ll ever hear. Yet her albums dont compare to her inferior technical singing peers.

Usher himself. Has made quite a few duds since Confessions. Is it bc he lost his ability to technically sing? :beli: No. Other factors matter and vocals are not the end all be all

Again, you are out of your depth

They like for people to foregt about Chris Brown. If dude hadn't been cancelled he'd probably be doing superbowls right now.
Not saying he didn't deserve it though, but he is clearly a superstar.

:russ: FOH

Chris Brown can't fill up an IHOP let alone arenas. And the shyt is his own fault. I have no sympathy for that nikka.

But you still gotta put Bruno Mars up there and The Weekend ain't never really been R&B imo.

The Weeknd and Frank Ocean are both alternative r&b. They just make a specific subgenre of r&b
Did you not read where I said his music was alternative like Frank Ocean? Yeah Weeknd's early music was alternative r&b but he ditched that to go pop. He don't even like his old music labeled as r&b. He don't want to be in that category anymore. He spoke out against the Grammy's putting his music in r&b categories.

Chris Brown was on his 2nd album then. He arguably has made better music since that unfortunate incident vs what he would have made had that not happened.

He would have been way more guided and cookie cutter if the industry had their way. Instead he's been walking his own path, alot of these songs we enjoy he would've never been allowed to make.
That’s not a given. We see the swerve Rihanna pulled with her music after they were styling and trying to present her and beyonce lite on her second album. Chris’s music would’ve grown up with him, but I don’t think he’d have become as vulgar as he has had he been able to maintain that pop stardom track

He's definitely an r&b superstar. I just think R Kelly was the last true one because he stuck to it when Usher decided to go pop. R Kelly 2010 album love letter is :wow:. This is at the same time when alot of r&b acts started chasing that edm techno crowd.

that the 1 with backyard party....that was my shyt I never even checked that album out tho

I believe Backyard (my shyt :wow:) was on the Buffet album. Love Letter is the album R Kelly was on his 60s soul shyt. It had When A Womans Love and Radio Message on it. And the duet with K Michelle was fire. Check it out bro.
