I'm waiting on the shootout where the good guys with a gun can't tell who the bad guy with a gun is and wind up shooting each other

That almost happened in the Gabby Giffords assassination attempt:

It's a lot more common for the "good guy" to end up shooting an innocent victim:

"Since 2015, at least 47 people have shot friends, loved ones, roommates, or emergency responders they said they’d mistaken for home intruders, killing 15, according to an analysis of US gun violence incidents by BuzzFeed News and the Trace. In at least 27 of those cases, criminal charges were dismissed or never filed because authorities deemed the shootings accidental, an act of self-defense in a moment of panic."

Or for the police to shoot the good guy:

Since this story has the ball rolling, let's also start the convo that guns incentivize reckless behavior. :sas2:

Because there's nothing that will bring bravery out of a coward than having a firearm at his side.

Guns don't stop crime, but they can damn sure lead to one.

Study in Philadelphia suggests that mugging victims with guns on them were about 5x more likely to get shot than mugging victims without guns:

Higher gun ownership levels result in higher gun homicide levels:

Numerous studies show that having a gun in the home increases the risk of accident, suicide, and homicide.

Or for the police to shoot the good guy:

  • An FBI analysis of 160 active shooter incidents from 2000–2013 found that active shooter incidents were rarely stopped by armed individuals who were not law enforcement returning fire. In fact, four times as many shootings were stopped by unarmed civilians restraining the shooter.
  • The gun lobby claims that shooters target “gun free zones” because they fear a “good guy with a gun,” and that arming more people in more places will deter crime. However, most mass shooters target a specific person, group, or institution with whom they have a grievance, making it unlikely that a gun-free policy affects the choice of target.

The statistics are readily available. The "good guy with a gun" is just one of many myths imagined by gun advocates to justify their fear of a problem that they help perpetuate.

The California article is especially interesting. Because Cali has some of the lowest per-capita firearm death rates out of any state in the nation.

This is the thing I always mention in those mass shooting threads. Just because you have a gun doesn't mean that you'll magically be able to assess the situation WHILE the bullets are already flying

And of course, the answer to this is allow anyone in the state to carry a concealed firearm with no check in. We are very nice to each other :troll:
Best part is they'll oppose Medicare for all and more funding for hospitals, increasing the chance that people will die from gun violence.

Dumbsantis basically watched mad max and thought "I want that to be us :krs: "

He wants that state to be the most violent and backwards place in the union. Texas won't be outdone tho, they're gunning(don't ask me how) for the number 1 spot.
