Alright, Ive been in here before, but Im back again and ready too stay...

I've finally noticed how fat I've gotten when someone took a photo of me at work and I was caught off guard.. It was a real wake up call...

So heres what I've done so far..

I've ordered:

A food scale

Heart rate monitor (that also logs calories burned)

I will be signing up at a local gym on Weds when my Hr monitor arrives

Ill post my stats tomorrow, no point in weighing in now after Ive been drinking and eating all day

Goodl luck OP....5X5 will fair you well.....enjoy the solid noob gainz that come with it & milk the progression (usually 2-4 cycles at 12 week stints per for the year) as much as possible!

I'm currently using the 5X5 (Madcow program) on a Cut coupled with a deficit calorie diet to good effect & all I can say is the going gets pretty tough as the bar gets meatier and the calorie intake get smaller (gotta adjust your Kcals to reflect your body weight as it reduces)!

Alright, I woke up this morning & weighed for the first time in a couple of months.. The results: 200.2 lbs, and I'm about 5'8...

So I signed up for the gym and went to work..

5x5 routine

Couch to 5k program

Total calories burned= 935

I've put myself on a 1800 calorie budget for this first month... I'll adjust it as time goes by & I lose weight

I wouldn't invest in that calories burned number. There are too many factors for that to be accurate.

Otherwise :salute:

Really?

Even if the number of calories burned came from my heart rate monitor?

I know not to count calories burned on machines like the treadmill or elliptical, but everywhere I've researched, it's always said if you want an accurate number of cals burned invest in a HR monitor with a strap...

Those are supposed to be more accurate but :manny:

My bigger point is I wouldn't look at like I burned X number and try to apply that to caloric intake. Go with the proven method of setting a maintenance level and eating below that to lose weight.

Oh, I think we're on the same page bro

I'm not going to eat any of my exercise calories.. Back in the day I would, but now I'll be strict and log my excerise right before bed

Plus I like to drink at least once on the weekends

So one cheat meal & some drinks-- if I save up all my exercise calories..

That was my point, I wouldn't use those numbers to in that way because they are hard to legitimize. I doubt you burned 1000 cals doing a 5x5 program and couch to 5k.

I think the best route is to eat 1800 cals everyday and monitor what the progress is for three weeks.
