toddler in 1999? i'm 27 going on 28 i was in junior high back when that dropped. i like to seperare pop music with the usual mainstream rap. My Name Is might not be a full fledged hip hop record but it isn't some crossover type steez that Drake does.

it is absolutely a crossover record and it was pop. It got play on rock stations because it was that pop/rapcore/punk crossover shyt that was hot in 1999. If you're 27, you were in middle school (barely) when this shyt came out. You really can't speak on it (respectfully).

shyt barely got played in hip hop circles so you can't even say it was a mainstream rap record. This wasn't Hypnotize.

The same way y'all attempt a rewrite on Em's 'humble real hip hop' beginnings is gonna be the same way Drake stans will do. "when Drake came out he was spitting real and taking hip hop to another level, then he went pop"

if we're talking about white rappers i think Em should be discussed as one of the best. as the face of hip hop i don't think he'll be qualified cause you got guys like Jay Z & Nas who should be mentioned.

Like I said I have no issue with Em's skills compared to anyone of any color, but he shouldn't be the face of a culture that by nature he's an outsider in (and I'm white) but in 20-30 years if the top two selling artists in the genre's history are Em and Drake the media will find a way to make them the face.
