takes 1-2 years at community college to get your LPN. 2-4 years to get your RN. and the only reason the nursing profession has been pushing for the 4 year RN programs now is because they are seeking to be viewed as "prestige" but they're not doing anything different than a 2 year RN and the 4 year program is just fluffed up.

better move is getting your RN at community in 2 years then getting your BSN in another 2 years. 4 year RN programs are more costly but easier to get into since CC is cheaper and more sought after. lots of hospitals are pushing for BSNs to retain magnet status but it neccessarily a requirement everywhere.
