The stories I hear it happens with politicians, it happens in hospitals, it happens in schools, it happens within people's families...the men with power are allowed to do what they want and women have so little power to prevent it or seek justice.

It isn't a pattern, and if you had a clue about the region you'd know this. Hindu communities in India suffer from the exact same issue. Muslim communities in Indonesia do not. This is an issue across South Asia, as two other posters before you had already noted, but you ignored them with the hopes it could be explained by your own pet bigotry.

I don't even think the issue is Islam per se, because i am Nigerian and for the most part the Muslims in my country do not behave this way towards women. I believe it is more of a cultural/tribal issue
You see it here in the "land of the free" where we have equality in theory but not in practice all the time. Jeffrey Epstein and the entire political class have basically been a string of abuse and disturbing attacks on young women and their families to hush them up for decades.
The way all societies treat women is shameful, we are better than this.
Visit Indonesia, Malaysia, Tunisia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Albania, and Nigeria and tell me what "pattern" you see? There are regional patterns that transcend religion, and by focusing on religion you are both ignoring the real issue as well as being totally useless as to a solution. You taking a thread about a terrible thing that happened to a woman and using it just to promote your own trolling without any positive objective at all.
Look at the thread and see how many people have co-signed your interpretation versus mine. Do you think that it is possible that at least some of these people know more about the relevant issues than you? Do you know anything about the relevant issues at all? Could you even tell me a single informed sentence regarding how these issues differ by religious background within South Asia?

Those women have it tough over there. If they report and assault or rape, they were most likely badly beaten and raped, not like many in this country that will lie and scream and say someone looking at them the wrong way is rape.
