i don't think it was just NWA alone...

you have to realize NWA came out during the 80s .....

when Reagan was president and AIDS and CRACK came to the forefront in the innercities

the innercities became true hell holes where white flight (white homeowners ran to the suburbs) took the tax base away from places detroit, cleaveland, and other places

and many just wasnt feeling the RHETORIC of "consiousness of pro black hip hop" because it wasnt really bringing anything tangible

when u got cats like ICECUBE saying..."SELF DESTRUCTION DON'T PAY THE MUFFIKING RENT".....

so you had many cats choosing thier options...should i follow homie with the african beads struggling to make ends meet selling oils on the corner

or should i follow homeboy with the fat gold chain, girls on deck, and a nice whip

:francis:

this is the dilemma many of "us" (young black men of the golden era) faced ...

AZ said it best..cause it described myself

"we were in the hood as FIVE PERCENTERS, but something must of gotten in us, cause all of us turned to SINNERS"

that was early 94, which makes sense around late 93 is to me when CONSCIOUS HIP HOP actually died

everybody in the words of ONYX got GRIMEY.....then GRIMEY led to JIGGY

people lost hope in the "conscious movement" cause the concsious movement wasn't FEEDING the people nothing but ideals

blacwatch movement, rasta movement etc. were idealistic, while the supreme team and shower posse materialisim started to overshower them..

and let's not forget it's the WOMEN that were influental as well...

as NAS showed in "BLACK GIRL LOST".......

she don't wanna hear that "go back to africa shyt"..she wants the "live n1gga" popping that cristal ...:yeshrug:

You can tell alot of the conscious acts dont fukk with NWA, I was watching the latest Vlad interview with Lord Jamar and he said straight up alot of his people werent fukking with NWA like that. You could tell he wanted to say more but he kept quiet about it.

Yup im still shedding tears over what ive become :to:

I use to be a pro black apologist now im a crude capitalist

Jay said it best "I tried to be a pleasant guy all my fukking life but now im down for WHATEVER aint nothing nice" :win:

I wrote this while I was bored one day at the job

I never found that nubian queen

But I found byatches and hoes

I never got a job based on my conscious intellect

But I got a career conforming to the corporate role :manny:

And I really do miss those years of cultural idealism.....I felt positive and caring....but capitalism has mad me cold and calculating....... :snoop:

And being that I have a son I struggle to maintain that balance..yeah I want him to be conscious but I want him to be wealthy as well

Cause Black is beautiful but GREEN is powerful :manny:

This is why I never gave a shyt about NWA's music.

Shyt was really CB4 to me.

Don't get the reverence people have for that group.Personally, I feel like their music wasn't needed.

Fukk that Straight Out Of Compton movie, to.

Biggest puppet group of all time........watch niccaz catch feelings cause they lost in the sauce:umad:

They're like DMX at the end of Belly when those white folks tried to get him to merk the "Messenger"

Niccaz are so easily fooled these days:francis:

Can we really blame Nwa tho?

They was just talking bout issues that been going on in the hood for years

Was Melle Mel - the Message bad for hiphop?

Straight Outta Compton was NWA'S Message

That wasn't the problem. This revisionist history of NWA as some pro black conscious group is fukkin absurd.

Yeah, fukk the police was a great record and did speak on shyt that needed to be said. But the rest of the albums are some of the most ignorant, misogynist, shyt ever. And I loved the albums but saw it for what it was even then.
