And this is coming from an NY fan, and a diehard Yanks, Jets, and Knicks fan.
NY fans can be summed up by one act: booing Derek Jeter. Because of the baseball nazi's I couldnt find a video of it, but here is a quote from an NY Times article:
They booed him over a minor slump in April. Now could you imagine bulls fans booing Jordan over a minor slump in Nov? Green Bay booing farve over an interception in Sept. Lakers fans booing Kobe? Could you imagine them doing that ever for any reason, much less an idiotic one?
Other fans have their issues, but they are largely very appreciative of their teams, loyal as hell, and only boo as an absolute last resort. Not out of some ridiculous sense of entitlement. And thats the problem. NY fans confuse obnoxious arrogance and abuse, for knowledge and passion, and on top of that they arent as smart about sports as their reputation would have you believe.
The knicks have never found a player they cant ridicule --- especially if hes black. Patrick Ewing is still traumatized over the way he was treated by the fans, and his only offense was not beating Jordan or Olujuwon; two of the greatest players to ever pick up a ball. Still, NY fans will simultaneously wonder why major free agents never want to play for us. Clippers fans love CP3. Knick fans sided with Jeremy Lin over Melo.
Sure, philly is worse but thats their gimmick as a city --- a bunch of miserable a$$holes who boo santa claus. But NY is supposed to be the greatest city in America: The unofficial capital of this country, and home to the best fans in the world.
Dont believe me then just listen to the callers for WFAN or ESPN radio NY for an hour --- it makes me sick to have to associate myself with such classless, ignorant, racist fans.

IN the home borough of the Bronx cheer, apparently nobody is sacred. Not even Derek Jeter.
What's he done for the Yankees lately? He's batting .175 and in an 0-for-25 slump, and the fans, or whatever they are, are booing him.
