Y’all do know if NYC or perhaps NY state hadn’t bullied Jersey around about the boarder Staten Island would have been literally NJ land. Initially I believe NYC and NJ should have had an even split in the Hudson River which means Staten Island would have been on the Jersey half.

I mean, it's been part of New York since the 1600s and it has been part of NYC as long as every other borough not named Manhattan. Plus all the Dutch street names fit in with it being New York

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.

NJ and NYC had boarder disputes for many years back then. If NY wasn’t the one running the show Staten Island might switch over to NJ. After all Brooklyn was its own city at one point.

I think the only reason people would want to switch to New Jersey in modern times if for lower taxes. But the borough has hundreds of years of New York history, so I think it's a valid part of NY/NYC and not just a de facto part of New Jersey.

Aside from the historic houses though, Staten Island is probably tied with Queens for worst architecture.

Yea it is. What I was saying was more of a fun fact.

One thing I like about Staten Island is all the trees. Even in the urban parts it seems like there is more nature around.

I only go through staten island to get to Jersey.

I can't see why any black person would choose to move there. I'm pretty sure that during hurricane Sandy, a black mother lost her kid to the storm, after a white man refused to let her in his house, after her car got stuck in the flood. It has to be one of the top :mjpls: places in NYC

The mansions in Todt Hill are :takedat: though

I think that's more true of Staten Island below the expressway. Just look at google map streetviews of the North Shore commercial streets like Victory Blvd or Jersey Street.

They can honestly have it....Staten and Long Island are pure basura. Where do all the tough guys come from? Not from a place that calls itself "Long" or "Staten".

Any real New Yorker will tell you;

Manhattan keeps on making it, Brooklyn keeps on taking it
Bronx keeps creating it, and Queens keeps on faking it....

Long Island is basically an extension of Queens and Staten is an extension of Jersey....they never mattered. With that posted, the Islands suck, needing a car for everything? Nah, no thanks.

Stop. All that “taking it making it shyt”. Gets repeated over snd over brainwashing you dummies. Im not even the type to brag about this shyt and trybto say my borough harder than yurs but you are so OFF.

The fact yiu even said that tells me you have no idea. “Tough white guys” lmao. “Any “real” new yorker knows...”. Wherever i go people know im from ny i couldnt hide it if i wanted to. Yall dont even have accents like that anymore stop wit the real new yorker shyt. Staten island where people priced outta “real ny” move to. This isnt 1965.

I cant even comfortably talk about this shyt

Look up who frank mattews is since you respect “hustle “ get money mantras. One of the most successful black hustlers all times. Whyd he live there. A white borough. Wonder why wutang are respected the way they are.

Staten island hustler culture PREDATES hip hop culture if ya wanna be honest. I know 70 year old men who talk like rae and ghost. You ever wondered why on tv all the closely “hip hop related programs” talking about hustling and mob shyt is based on staten island? Not queens. Not modern brooklyn. Not bronx.

Cuban linx. The best hip hop album ever. The defininitive gangster album in east coast hip hop. Wutang greatest group in hip hop. But staten island... fake new york. Fake swag. Soft. Ok. Lmao!

Take anither look next time you there and stop wit ya judgements. Enjoy the good guinea cooking. Thats like me coming up here saying mexicans are soft cuz all i see are taco stands when i drive thru tgeir block. Ignorant.

Brooklyn
Born and bred in Brooklyn. During the pandemic though, the landlord (chinese) basically stopped taking care of building. Gas company shut him down and it was a horrible experience.

My wife and I shopped for houses in Brooklyn, Queens, and even the Bronx. Problem was Brooklyn and Queens wanted over 800k on anything decent. To make matters worse, if we wanted a yard, it wouldn't have a driveway/garage and vice verse, if we wanted a driveway/garage no real yard - and if we wanted both in Brooklyn, it was close to a million dollars or better. And lot of the houses in our price range in BK were small as hell.

The Bronx had some nice sized houses in our price range, but they were in less than stellar neighborhoods.

So we settled on Staten Island, South Shore, got a house a little under 700k. 3 floors, plus a fully furnished basement with a bedroom and its own little kitchenet, backyard, driveway/garage, and a mother in law suite with its own kitchen, living room, and bedroom (we rent that out to my mother in law).

We out the way, and it's mad quiet in my neighborhood. My work commute to BK is a little over an hour. However, I still get my fill of BK every day and it's nice to go somewhere where it's nice, peaceful, and secluded.
