Zohran Mamdani: Food should be cheaper for the poorest people

Multimillionaire: So you want to murder me

[Quoted tweet]
CNBC Host David Faber: "The new mayor potentially of New York is gonna freeze the rents..."

Jim Cramer: " But how about the rich? Do they get shot?"

It already is cheaper for the poorest people. They get food stamps

Food costs what food costs, regardless of the income of the purchaser.

@X_Participant
It's a joke - and a quite funny one, lol.

7/11
@ARevelant83
I know that economics 101 is incredibly challenging for a communist (characteristic that usually correlates with room temperature IQ, in °C), but there is a reason why in a market, prices are at a certain level, and with some exceptions, it is not arbitrary greed.
Once a politician in power imposes to cap the price of the rent, he is creating a disincentive for the owners to rent. What follows is further scarcity of places offered for rent and more poor people without a place to rent.
Then, after that, what would be the following step if this politician wants to have more apartments available for poor people? Direct or indirect expropriation.
Consequently what would happen if someone does not want to be robbed of their own property by New York city?
Police is involved, violence is used against the owners (defund the police, but not when I want the State monopoly of the force used against owners) and potentially owners could be killed.

8/11
@RiverNj
Dude -- you're so retarded that you want to replace an less destructive model of socialism (food stamps) for more destructive model (VA hospitals, Medicare and Medicaid).

@DarrigoMelanie
People are more upset at Zohran Mamdani's proposal to put one non-profit grocery store that sells food at cost, in each NYC borough, than the current system that is forcing 7 million people to go into debt to buy groceries with buy now / pay later services.

Grocery stores operate on very thin profit margins. About 1 to 3 percent. I don't think this idea will save people much money.

I’d like the city improve the functions that it legitimately controls already before starting a new venture into something that isn’t really needed, and would probably be bad at

10/11
@johnrennhack
Yes, let’s put mom and pop stores out of business in communities where there are already food deserts and count on the city to keep the shelves filled.
Those mom and pop stores are creating generational wealth for black, brown and Asian families.

11/11
@everythingszn
I think it’s more than that. Could then change from food stamps be beneficial? Sure.

But how’s the city gonna come out ahead needing to buy and maintain grocery stores while at the same time having prices so low there is no profit? You really can’t do that without higher taxes

Zohran Mamdani wants NYC to cut food prices by running its own grocery stores.

@DarrigoMelanie
Weird how everyone wanted affordable groceries until the Dem nominee for NYC mayor had a policy to actually do it.

The reason conservative politicians are attacking Zohran Mamdani is because he’s reminding people that it’s their job to help their constituents, not their donors.

2/11
@MartinDressel
What's his policy? He has dreams, I have dreams. I'm a lot older than Mr. Mamdani, and I have learned that radicalism goes nowhere. Progress is made step by step, never overnight.

3/11
@DarrigoMelanie
Progress has been halted and rolled back since Citizens United. His policy is one non-profit, government-financed grocery store in each borough that sells staples like milk, eggs, bread, etc, at cost. If that is considered radical, then we've lost the thread.

4/11
@citygalsports
Well he’s brown duh. They only want white old man savior.

5/11
@trulyobjective
People wanted a lower cost of living after Biden.

Government control of food is not what they wanted.

This has never worked before.

Supermarkets are a low margin business even with their buying power of scale.

Several government owned supermarkets will not be able to offer a much better price than large supermarkets if they can even offer food at the same price.

The government markets will cost a fortune to bullied out, manage and will operate at a loss forcing new taxation to pay for their operation.

This is another example of prying on the uninformed promising to deliver something the government can not while forcing out small businesses.

6/11
@GeorgeRosaJRCR
As long as constituents sit and whine and do NOTHING about it, donors own this country!

7/11
@WazzupDoc7
What makes you think his policy will "actually do it"?

If a supermarket operates at a profit margin of 2% then a nonprofit doing the same thing could sell for how much less?

Sliwa: Don't be fooled. The wealthy, rich white neighborhoods, look at the map. That's where the highly educated white gen zers, millennials live, and they would be more than happy to pay more than their fair share. Just as you think that would be repulsive, they are cheering that.

Hopefully the right will continue thinking Mamdani is only appealing to hipsters or focus on his religion and miss what Bannon sees.

[Quoted tweet]
Close Trump ally Steve Bannon tells me Republicans should take the Mamdani win in NYC seriously.

“He did something that AOC and Bernie haven’t been able to do – he connected populism to affordability," Bannon told me.

“Republicans better start taking this guy seriously and they better stop wishing that he wins and they will automatically run against his policies in 2026. This guy is a very skilled politician. He’s clearly had a lot of training. He’s got radical ideas, but he presents them in a sunny upbeat way and people feel like he’s fighting for them, particularly on an issue that Republicans haven’t connected on yet: affordability.”

I'll have an exclusive interview with @ZohranKMamdani on @MeetThePress this Sunday.

2/21

Zohran Mamdani is saying things like “poverty is a policy choice and politicians have a duty to their constituents to make their lives affordable” and it is making a lot of politicians very very scared that they may actually have to start doing some actual service in their public service jobs.

In light of all the centrist and establishment democrats losing their fukking mind over mandani and refusing to endorse him after his primary win

My question is, what happened to "vote blue no matter who":mjgrin:or Does that slogan only apply when a centrist/center right is the candidate:mjgrin:
You see it :lolbron:
They are not very good at hiding it:mjlol:It's also not lost on me that centrists seem to have more smoke for this dude than they do trump and maga

I genuinely believe corporate democrats hate leftists more than they do maga
⬇️⬇️ Perfect time to bring this back :sas1:
Democrats being “Leftwing” is an AmeriKKKan lie. It doesn’t exist in American politics.⬅️⬅️⬅️

In reality, Democrats are Centrists that turn Right Wing when punched in the mouf by a hard Left truth. ⬅️⬅️⬅️

AmeriKKKa
teaches its subjects to be desensitized and even be
pro-US Imperialism through US propaganda, to support the Empire.

Hence “Blue MAGA” when Democrats are confronted with anti-US Imperialism, anti-colonialism, anti-genocide and anti-Zionism. ⬅️
This is impossible, because of Christian rule in AmeriKKKa.

You see, AmeriKKKa is a Christian nation that’s only secular on paper. ⬅️⬅️⬅️

In order for that to happen AmeriKKKa would have to go through a strong cultural secularization process which it can’t because of taught Christian conservative values and the strong political influence of the church. ⬅️⬅️⬅️

All the Ruling Class and church gotta do is point at LGBT ppl and abortion — and those that would benefit from secularization and Left wing policies the most, will go against their own best interests and side with them, because “Christian values”.

Class consciousness isn’t there for that to happen.
And frankly, with the attack on Education and the current strategic reimposition of Christianity in schools, that reality is further than ever. ⬅️⬅️⬅️

Ppl thinking Democrats are Left wing, when in reality they are Centrist is a prime example of the disconnect in class consciousness, political illiteracy en masse — and how easy it would be for the Far Right to prevent the necessary move towards the Left and cultural secularism in reality. ⬅️⬅️⬅️

The culture wouldn’t allow it, because Americans have been conditioned to love the establishment, despite being an oppressor.

So no, this is impossible in AmeriKKKa.

The Netherlands is an example of a country that did successfully went through this very exact process.
