i am pretty sure when they do the math Cuomo got around the typical number of primary black voters who tend to be older. Mamdani got a lot of younger black voters.
Mamdani had volunteers canvassing around black neighborhoods and by the polls every day. He just had a much better operation based on volunteer support. Cuomo had more money but there wasn’t much he could do with that except send more mailers and buy more advertising.
