Trump on Mamdani: "He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City. Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises. He won’t be getting any of it, so what’s the point of voting for him?"

@KinzuaW
I can’t figure out why people call Trump a fascist…

@CharlesPerreir7
Trump really out here threatening to withhold federal funds like some petty ass dictator, all while calling Mamdani a “fake communist.” Meanwhile, the city’s drowning in his legacy of mismanagement and corruption, and he’s still pretending he’s the savior of New York. This is the same guy who never actually fixes anything—just screams, insults, and points fingers now acting like he controls the budget of a city he doesn’t even run. Mamdani can promise what he wants; the only thing Trump delivers is chaos, ego, and empty threats.

@OhMyManna
No other president would put American lives at risk by withholding funding, because the person they dislike won an election.

@SilenceDamned
Alright, Donald, your pathetic swipe at Zohran Mamdani's politics is bad enough, but this reckless threat to withhold federal funds is an outright legal disgrace! I cannot stand either of you clowns, your overblown ego and his sanctimonious socialist schemes, but you do not get to play dictator with congressionally approved cash! The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 was forged to stop this exact kind of executive tyranny, and you cannot freeze a dime without Congress's approval through a special message and their consent. The Supreme Court has shredded this nonsense before, and recent 2025 rulings on sanctuary city funding prove it is unconstitutional. The Appropriations Clause hands the purse strings to Congress, not your grubby hands, and usurping that is a blatant lawbreaker's move!
This is not about Mamdani's ridiculous promises, free buses, rent caps, and taxing the rich, winning or crashing; it is about your arrogant power grab crashing and burning! New Yorkers might be split on his garbage, with polls showing him at 55 percent but plenty gagging at his 30-dollar minimum wage fantasy by 2030, and I am with them on the skepticism. But your stunt invites a courtroom smackdown, not some triumphant policy win. Get back in your constitutional cage, DJT, leave the money decisions to Congress where they belong, you and Mamdani both be damned!

“What’s the point of voting” is his entire end goal

Okay, please keep reading. This is why Antifa is the new boogeyman.
Use this list, and try to see the similarities in how Trump and MAGA work.
Umberto Eco's 14 Warning Signs of Fascism (from his 1995 essay "Ur-Fascism") – a timeless checklist for spotting authoritarian drift. Thread:
1: The Cult of Tradition – Rejects modernism; mixes myths and beliefs into a weird, incoherent mishmash.
2: The Rejection of Modernism – Sees Enlightenment rationality as corrupt; glorifies a "pure" past.
3: Irrationalism – Distrusts intellect and science; action for action's sake over thought.
4: Disagreement is Treason – No debate allowed; dissenters are traitors to the nation.
5: Fear of Difference – Racism as a core tenet; the "Other" is always a threat.
6: Appeal to a Frustrated Middle Class – Targets those hit by economic crisis or feeling humiliated.
7: Obsession with a Plot – Constant paranoia about enemies (Jews, immigrants, elites) plotting against us.
8: Enemies as Both Weak and Strong – Portrays foes as sneaky weaklings who are also a massive, all-powerful threat.
9: Pacifism is Trafficking with the Enemy – Life is permanent warfare; peace is weakness.
10: Contempt for the Weak – Elitism where the strong dominate; weakness is contemptible.
11: Everybody is educated to become a hero – Cult of machismo and weaponry; disdain for women and non-standard sexuality.
12: Machismo and Weaponry – Selective populism: Leaders "speak for the people" but never with them.
13: Selective Populism – News is biased in our favor; facts that contradict are fake.
14: Newspeak – Uses poor vocabulary and slogans to limit critical thinking.

@margaretsiegien
His petty dictator tactics dangling money like a weapon to sabotage Zohran Mamdani’s campaign expose a desperate, corrupt ego unwilling to let democracy run its course.

@Armand456082300
Does the president now hold a veto on all government spending?
13/37
@ThatDudeCLos
He really believes he controls federal money. All of those in the House need to remind him that's not the case
14/37
@teroterotero
This should be good for another three point bump for Zohran.
15/37
@fjrsally
Trump is announcing that he will bypass the spending appropriations voted on by a Republican congress.
16/37
@jlamonteIII
Trump now literally interfering with elections across the country. Trying to play king and say he won’t conduct himself in the way he should. The history of our country has shown that blue states subsidize red, so what exactly is he saying here? Preposterously corrupt.
17/37
@sminnis1
You have to admire Trump's integrity, character and commitment to unite our country. All his hostility towards 66% of our great country is a tremendous help to pull us together. Thank you Trump
18/37
@johnandi
Trump fears that New York will have a black or brown Mayor. He has texted many hysterical attacks on Sadiq Khan, the best Mayor London has ever had. Mamdani may well turn out to be the same for New York. That's why he's desperate to stop him. It gives the lie to White Supremacy.
19/37
@stubman6871067
That money tRump is referring to comes from federal taxes from the people of New York City. It isn't his money.
20/37
@photogater
Shorter post: "Trump just ensured Mamdani's victory".
21/37
@MS_Bifyouplease
“Money from me” Like he personally is in charge of our treasury. Oh wait the less the Supreme Court has said this is true. There are zero republicans anymore just Trumpublicans fighting for a spot on trumps ass for their lips.
22/37
@kiralerner
I'm sorry, I thought the House held the purse strings here--something in the Constitution, yadda yadda? Maybe I was misinformed. Then again, Republicans do Trump's bidding, so a word from him and those teat-suckling piglets will follow mama sow's commands.
23/37
@rafvelu
This is just like chavez did when the opposition won the major election in caracas. Incredible the similarities between tRump and chavez
24/37
@Jdruc00
The POTUS who bought shares of corporations with federal funding and redistributed wealth to farmers from urbanites is calling someone else a communist??????????????????????????????
25/37
@Vernacularshift
Trump must be really well read on old populist peasant uprisings that had hints of socialist thought if he thinks any of this stuff has failed for thousands of years
26/37
@PeterRB1965
Those are tax dollars collected from the hugely productive New York City. Trump is threatening to withhold their own money from New Yorkers daring to vote their preferences.

He must be a fake commie because a real commie would want to share the poverty, not the wealth.
33/37
@StupidTrumps
Pretty sure what he’s doing is illegal.
34/37
@JamesJonesHere
The blue states and red states are gonna split up at some point. Sooner than people might think too.
35/37
@TheHoleTweet
Once again Trump is correct.
36/37
@Dan_Brisbois
Trump’s basically telling New Yorkers the obvious: Mamdani can promise the moon, but without federal dollars his “communist dreamland” is DOA. You want free housing, free healthcare, free whatever? Cool story — but Trump’s making it clear he won’t cut a single check to bankroll socialism. So what’s the point of voting for a mayor whose whole agenda collapses the second Washington slams the door? Communism has failed everywhere it’s been tried, and Mamdani’s about to learn the hard way it fails even faster when the money spigot gets shut off.
37/37
@ChidiNwatu
Mamdani will become the Mayor of New York and no level of fearmongering will prevent that from happening.
