In London authorities would cause those artists to try to not make a living off that music and the consequence was either these artists would hold secret shows in undisclosed locations OR they'd wind up fully committing to a life of crime. That said, the rap music there had more variance than drill music here.
Drill music in of itself isn't THE issue. At its best it's gym music. The problem is that it's addictive to young kids because it's tribal as fukk and nobody knows how to fix that since the alternative isn't as attractive. We all kinda have a part in why this shyt is how it is. We love violence and we really love watching real people with real beef going at it and since them dying doesn't affect the people who listen to it, they don't really care since someone else with enemies will just pop up and keep the hate train moving.
This isn't like how gangsta rap was back then even though the reactions are similar. The fact that clout chasing is a thing makes some of the excuses people use to try to justify the music flimsy.

This shyt has been political since forever. How long will it take for the problems to actually be addressed in a efficient manner? I have been living in NYCHA for most of my life and the community is still dealing with the same shyt. NYC is inconsistent when it comes to addressing and fixing the problems of low-income areas. Things will be going good for a couple of months, then it resorts back to the same ole bullshyt. Your area is getting a multimillion dollar renovation, but what about others that have been asking for it for decades?
They always talk about it being in the "works", but they never actually do anything. My NYCHA area is in the process of being privatized right now(I don't know if it is going to go through), but it might make matters even worse. I know there are programs out there that have been helping the community though, but it is not enough and time is of the essence.
There is another problem too, NYCHA and the NYC government needs to do a better job at promoting the already made resources that are available too. I found free-tech training through NYCHA through my own searching, and I wonder how many other people knew about this.

Did you watch the man speak? He’s talking about the media companies and how they have a “civic and moral responsibility” which is why they have terms of use. The drill music videos violate those terms of use en masse because of that he has a legitimate claim to present them with on top of the wild shyt that’s been happening in the city and to these kids specifically.

So let's ban the music the comes as a result from the problems in these communities instead of fixing the problems in the actual community

People in here getting the argument skewed. It's not about censorship or taking away someone's artistry.
Drill music is a problem because these kids are active gang members. Several of them have either gotten shot/murdered or locked up for shootings. They're antagonizing rivals on social media and threatening retaliation. Someone gets shots and the opps are laughing on IG or Twitter. Guns, which are illegal in NY, are in videos in the hands of criminals. They're using these platforms to gangbang.
If these kids were studio gangsters and bodies weren't dropping the mayor isn't having this convo. They're shooting up busy sidewalks in broad daylight and innocent people have been killed in the crossfire.
