Somewhere along the lines the music took a dark turn. I remember seeing an LL Cool J interview where he was asked why doesn't he rap about things like Grand Master Flash. He was like no no no. Kids see that every day they need something to make them happy. They don't wanna hear that when the see that all the time. Thinking about it he had a really good point. The uplifting black music brought a culture of black people being more kinder to each other also vs today. All this shyt is by design. Anything to destroy and tear down positive black greatness.

And you got so-called Black men on here defending this.

Our young people today do not hear or see any productive inspiration in the music and the culture.

They are saturated with hyper violent and hyper sexual content in ways and technologies that no previous generation has ever faced.

I think LL Cool J's biggest radio hit was "I Need Love" which was a love ballad. Could we imagine that happening today?

It reached #1 on the Hot Black Singles and #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 while becoming one of the first rap songs to enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK, reaching #8 in the UK Singles Chart. The single won a Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap Single in 1988 Soul Train Music Awards. The song ranked #13 on About.com's Top 100 Rap Songs. It was Number 60 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop. I Need Love - Wikipedia

But there’s other violent music out there too that isn’t drill. Even regular hip hop is poison. Nobody likes the positive stuff so they rather be entertained by the violent junk. Other genres also have that violent factor to it.

Regular hip hop has some poison but drill rap and regular rap aint the same thing.

Above the fray.
There have been key arrests of gangs and gun runners since Adams got into office.
President Biden was in town a few days ago with Mayor Adams, discussing that issue and the Fed. Task Force put together to stop gun trafficking to 5 metro areas, including NYC.

Fact that this happened a few days ago, and people are running with "bu bu bu but he needs to address gun violence instead of rappers" shows that people see what they want to see.

Less than 10 days ago , the President, the Attorney General and Mayor Adams met to discuss the use of Federal resources to help stem the gun violence in NYC

Guys in here acting like this didn't just happen and repeating the same false takes over and over and over, stop it.
Beyond disingenuous. And if you cared about addressing the bigger picture issues, you would track and follow the govt. actions that are attempting to do that.

When it comes to rap and drill specific, the draw is the authenticity. They hear one side dissing the other and then people on either side literally die. Comparing that dynamic to movies and TV is laughable at best.
If this is to be solved its by eliminating poverty and income inequality. You put a bunch of poor people in a community who both have nothing and have nothing to lose and they gonna fight and kill each other over all types of stupid stuff. How many of these drill rappers are coming up in millionaire households?

It's easy to point your finger at the results of the system if you're a politician but it's hard to acknowledge the system is what created those results. Adams not gonna do shyt about the actual problem like all the rest of these politicians.

The political system is more about how to manipulate the system as it is in your favor to achieve further power than it is to actually fix anything.

I always liked LL's music. He never switched to being a gangsta when gangsta music was at it's peak. I respect him for that.

And no I really couln't see I need love being a hit today. shyt so crazy. There really is no black music anymore. Black people invited these Pale Faces to the cook out and now look at this shyt.

Such bull shyt. The gov't has always been responsible for the gun violence. They've been purposely putting guns in the hood for decades.

We all know plenty of men who leave the poverty areas you just mentioned to well off suburbs and do the same shyt.. Its men in the suburbs with resources who do this shyt as well. Everyone knows this.. Even the perpetrators of these crimes even acknowledge this is more to do with generational beefs and lack of family/community structure than poverty.

That poverty angle is more of a political pawn used to ear mark money for violence prevention programs and social pet projects that white people profit off of

People always want everything to e black or white.
There's different types of rap and even different types of gangster rap.
One dude rapping about how tough he is, or what he used to do before he rapped is not the same thing as this opp-talk, gun flashing videos, gang affiliation promotion and on. That's literally the same as propaganda videos and radio terrorists use and shyt they used in the Rwanda genocide etc.

This is barbershop talk and a deflection from the point about Adams addressing bigger picture issues. He literally met with the AG and the President to help direct more FED resources to stop the flow of firearms into the city and arrest those responsible.

Blows up the "bu bu bu but instead of going after rappers he should be doing x,y,z" talk.

Now, another deflection.

nikkas negged me and tried to get me banned when I was saying the same thing a few years back.

We need to draw a line where what is acceptable for black people. Anyone on the other side of that line time for you to go.
