New York officials face backlash over 'congestion' tax push

With Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s backing, the proposed charge would be imposed at all Manhattan points of entry below 60th Street. While the price has not been set in stone, a report commissioned by Cuomo’s office recommends cars entering Manhattan during peak hours be charged $11.52, and trucks be charged $25.34 – on top of any bridge tolls.

this city cannot extort its way out of its pension crisis :laff:

the fukk...$25 to enter manhattan? i know comparatively not a lot of folks own cars in manhattan, but if you do a commute to a burb or throughout the tri state or commute into manhattan, you'd have to pay this every day ? is this charged to taxis/ride sharing - a cool extra $25 on top of what it already costs to get from an airport into the city?

I think that the same thing is done in London or Paris or Barcelona...I can't remember which one but it worked for what they were trying to accomplish

Is this how they planned to offset the Amazon tax breaks? :picard:

Sounds like NYC needs a massive transit overhaul. Or just have only automated cars allowed in Manhattan.

yea, it's one thing to have a small surcharge...but to jump the price by $25 is crazy. that's really fukked up if you drive to/from work. you're forcing more people into public modes of transport which might not be the most convenient for them and it's already a system that you already said is failing (running at beyond capacity on certain lines, crumbling infrastructure), i can already see the city of San Francisco rubbing their palms at implementing this as well :dead:

The Fox article isn’t really accurate but it’s Fox

Anyways the mayor is currently against the current iteration as are most businesses

The governor has also been against pieces of congestion pricing as well

I’m also against congestion pricing as proposed

Even tho I live in Manhattan and have a car this will not effect me. Harlem baby!
Commuting in a car below 60th St. during a work day is pretty obnoxious. I guess a lot of delivery trucks will just drive to above 60th St. and then come down. An inconvenience but better than paying $11. :manny:
