It’s complicated.
Democrats represent the poor.
Democrats represent science and advancement.
Democrats kind of are in a tough spot because it looks like they’re not looking out for poor people who are seeing a wider gap in lower and upper class. Democrats are waiting for breakthroughs from Science to materialize and that’s what they’re dumping money and policy into. If those Scientific breakthroughs hit then they’re thinking the poor can be saved. Problem is you can’t brute force those breakthroughs: they happen when they happen.
Additionally, breakthroughs aren’t quite as large as they were back in the day. The breakthroughs today are more advanced, complex and intricate than they ever were but as an already advanced scientific society the reward isn’t the same like we were riding around on horses every day. The last big, massive Earth-changing scientific breakthrough was probably the Blue LED from the early 1990’s.
The problem doesn’t necessarily revolve around the Democrats.
Science gets paid a lot of money: those of us with advanced degrees make far above average salary.
While these grand breakthroughs aren’t happening, many scientists and STEM are still making a large amount of money. A lot of resentment starts building from people who didn’t go that route.
Democrats can’t turn their back on scientists and they can’t turn their back on poor working class people. However, as long as the breakthroughs for world hunger and the like aren’t happening, the divide between rich and poor only grows.
Basically, people can’t delay gratification for long, which is understandable because they’re the ones hurting now while science tries to figure these problems out.
