O.C. is the lyricist of the year IMO.

just listen to how ageless his skills are on the beautiful D.O.C. tribute. If you're a young kid who won't recognize all the nuances and DOC song titles he weaves into the mix then stay on the sidelines.

Nas had a good showing but his rehashed tales of '88' and his simping doesn't hold up to what OC did on Trophies.

listen to 'White Room'. Listen to 'Caught Up'. Listen to 'Nautica'. listen to 'The Formula'. listen to how ill a grown ass weed song 'Anotha One' is.

Beautiful, remarkable writing.

peace to Sean P, Roc Marc, Ka & Kendrick. Lil Fame also remained excellent and slept on on Fizzyology. And people still don't get what DOOM did on JJ DOOM.

Am I alone in thinking that all the Nas zealots fawning over "20 year old skills" completely ignored a better showing from a vet with exactly as many years under his belt?

Fudge Pudge predate Live at the BBQ? I think it might.

Most Nas fans in the booth became fans of Nas off of stillmatic for christ sakes.

I know. That's why I give Em truth serum at every turn. You can't be a post Illmatic Nas sign up and ever have an inkling of an iota of a clue. Them's just the rules.

I would go with Kendrick....but O.C. seems to be a good choice too. I will check out "Trophies" and other stuff from him...the track in the OP was incredible....

Kendrick is a good choice. I'm old as fukk and new yorky so I'm gonna lean a certain way but I truly feel Omar Credle put in a championship caliber performance. It just sucks that his brand of rap had been snuffed out and marginalized while his peers, namely Nas & Jay Z, both sold out to double dollars and have benefited from PR.

let me further the Nas vs. OC thing. Listen to O.C.'s take on young women being marginalized by men and subjected to innocence lost....kind of kin to Nas' 'Daughters'. You tell me which record is more profound.
