O.C. is the lyricist of the year IMO.

Respectfully disagree. He's not as pristine and a bit doofy. Rap music is impressive though but it's helmed by head cac in charge El P thus dimming its shine.

Ain't nothing 'doofy' about Killer Mike, at all.

I didn't fukk with the production either but that ain't got shyt to do with Mike's rapping. His energy, focus, enunciation, picture-painting >>>>>>

^^^^lol. Me too!

Remember that 'let it slide' record? That record has probably saved my life a few times.

And even now off trophies I apply that caught up songs principles to how I approach my outlook on casual relationships with women. The hope is too enrich, not rob them of jewels.

Let me clarify "doofy". Lacking grace. He's a fat guy. He channels ice cube but does it by buddying up to the cac master. There's something doofy there. Saigon was better pre dud he dropped this year.

That's a rather strange argument to make against a rapper. It's his style. He's been channelling Cube his entire career. There's nothing doofy there, if Cube's been a direct influence before he even thought of 'buddying' up with El-P.

Yeah. I like RAP Music and respect Mike as an MC. He's a good guy. He just doesnt move me like Omar Credle. I hated 'Monster' which was sad because I was GEEKED for Mike after he slaughtered 'snappin & trappin'. He just dropped that ball IMO. I avoided all those 'grind' albums because every time I peeped a track or two it was generic, southern shyt.

Rap music is his best shyt and I maybe played it 7-10 times. But I like Mike and respect your opinion.

True, true. I just got my hands on "Trophies" and I'm bumping it now, great stuff...I was sleeping on him...the only song I really knew of his is this (Please don't kill me):

:russ: my bad, I meant that I would try to get a hold of his discography and bump it. I'm just diggin' in the crates for the good shyt man.

Will do. Thanks for the heads up. :salute:

If you never really bumped OC before(you have likely heard alot of his records before, trust me). Let Word Life and Jewelz breathe when you have the chance to listen to the full albums.

It's good music. :yeshrug:

He's way better than Lupe. Totally different vibe but connected only due to how dismal the rest of the commercial landscape is consciously. Kendrick made an album that absolutely nails the new gen in a very smart way that isnt at all condescending. I was ready to hate. i'm a Danny Brown guy all day. But Kendrick delivered in spades.

i suppose if you compare kendrick to his mainstream contemporaries then yes he made a good album. but thanks to the internet, i can listen to everything. therefore to me, the mainstream and underground literally don't exist in a way :manny: and based on that, i call kendrick overall an OKAY rapper. when you compare all the rappers on the planet earth, kendrick isn't a top tier rapper IMO. lyrically he is GOOD. his voice SUCKS to me. concept wise, he's alright, not really doing too much that hasn't been done before. he's just lucky his "concept" album got pushed harder than others in the past.

to me, it mostly comes down to his voice, i just don't like it. and something about his style just isn't good with me. not sure what it is. but i'm just speakin my mind here. i've tried to give it an honest shot :manny:

I actually found his voice to be one of the humanizing, endearing factors to his presentation. Like Danny, another guy tagged with the wack voice label, I find it makes him/them interesting and enjoy hearing how they utilize it from track to track.

Kendrick's a winner, Jewnited. I promise.

This has got to be one of my favorite tracks of the year.

Since we're also talking O.C. albums here, what do people think of Starchild and Smoke & Mirrors? I wanna check them out but I've heard differing opinions...

Starchild and Smoke and Mirrors are dope too but I think they need a few listens to sink in either way, O.C. does it again and I'm glad he's getting some shine. His album Trophies with Apollo Brown is a refreshing album to listen it's old and new at the same time if it makes any sense.
