how was mayo rated higher than derrick rose tho?

i remember mayo was supposed to be like the next kobe.

derrick rose wasnt even getting as much props as eric gordon iirc.
Because Rose's HS coach at the time didn't allow Freshmen to play on Varsity.

Imagine D. Rose going against Freshmen and Sophomores when he was clearly the best prospect in the Nation in his class at the time

6'4" with a 6'6" wingspan are less than ideal attributes for a star 2-guard. if he was 6'6" with a 6'11" wingspan he'd be an all-star. he a decent not great athleticism. and always had a nice jump shot. he's not very good because he can't finish in the paint over length. with more ideal attributes he'd be better at that.

physical attributes matter. most of the time its what makes the difference between someone being average or great.
Weak excuses. A huge wingspan isn't a must to able to finish in the paint and at the rim. Guys like tiny Parker and AI are two of the best finishing guards in recent memory and neither were blessed with height or wingspan. Ty Lawson is another little guard who can finish pretty well too. Mayo's size isn't preventing him from being an all star. He's just not an all star caliber player.

he doesn't have their athleticism though. what i'm saying is being a decent athlete plus great size and length for the position is whats needed. even freak athletes with less than ideal wingspans struggle. look no further than blake griffin and his weaknesses scoring in the post against legit bigs.

Mayo is just as athletic as Tony Parker. Stop making excuses for Mayo, he is what he is.

mayo is 6'4
the reason why he's irrelevant is because he was never that good
being held back for two years is a big advantage in high school
damn near everybody on that aau squad was not in the right class

why was he held back twice? You mean this nikka was 20 years old playing with teenagers :mjlol:

What does DRose not playing varsity as a freshman have to do with not being considered a better prospect(*by recruiting analysts) than Mayo by their senior years of HS?

I was just going off of the video date of 2005.

Rose was a freshmen in HS in 03/04, so these other guys had more hype because they were running on varsity as freshmen (wasn't Mayo playing varsity basketball in junior highschool?)

And when they were seniors in HS I vividly remember Rose being touted as the best. Mayo had a lot of hype as well, but Rose's was pretty damn high if I remember correctly...

Gotcha, yea Rose definitely had crazy hype and was the #1PG in his class(the 07 class was crazy as a whole) but was still behind Mayo overall. I never quite understood why Mayo was still #1 by the end of their SR years, to me Beasley, Love, Rose, and Gordon(in no order) were all better than him.

they were held back just for the sole purpose of playing basketball
a lot people do it for one, because you have that edge, but 2 years is not even fair
it's crazy looking at that video because lance stephenson is really that good

mayo should have come out in like 05.
bill walker, was the same way, but they found out and declared him ineligible
alex tyus, he started playing in missouri, and I'm not quite sure how they
let him drop back that far.
