Obama breaks silence on 2nd Trump presidency: "Imagine if I had done this!”

Should Obama have wielded power more forcefully from 2009-2017?

In 2009

Obama had a huge majority in the U.S. House

He had 59 U.S. Senators

A conservative Democratic Party? Yes.

Was he hugely popular? Yes. Damn near 70% approval coming in.

He had huge latitude!! I remember.

Trump is acting as if he won that kind of mandate or was that popular.
The fact that you think any of that matters for a black man in America is funny. If he did what Trump is doing, things would have changed quickly and he would have been out of there. Not to mention, if he went rogue it would have been against the powers that be, and they wouldn’t let that fly.

Speak for yourself. I would love to have a black president thats proudly pro black the way Trump is proud to be kkk. Maybe we would actually get tangibles with a pro black president instead of a black man passing lbgt laws and bills left and right

That president would be DEAD before the 2nd mention of being pro black.

After the Supreme Court's decision, President Obama called it a "victory for America" and a step towards a more perfect union

I'm not sure how you save a country full of people this stupid. You cannot watch someone tear things down and then say "look what he's building! How come nobody built things before." What should Obama have done that is equivalent to deliberately destroying the economy, rising prices on goods, erasing post-WWII global order, indiscriminately firing black people from government jobs, erasing mentions of black/gay/women/immigrant contributions to the country etc? He's taking a blow torch to the world and you're sitting here saying Obama could have done that too? Are you retarded?

Meanwhile Trump's agenda has been stalled in congress since he got sworn in. It doesn't take congressional approval to fire people. It takes congressional approval to pass laws or programs that help people. Which Trump did little of in his first term and hasn't done (so far) in his second term. So why are we comparing Obama's program/legislation record to a guy whose biggest achievement was passing a ridiculous tax cut? Meanwhile Obama's biggest achievements are uh....clawing the country out of recession and passing a healthcare bill that is one of the most popular programs in the country right now. Stop being stupid.

So you hit them first and gave ALL Republicans living in fear after Leonard Leos head was left on Lindsey Grams porch.

You don't have to be so extreme, but you know what I mean. YOU HACE THE MILITARY AS THE PRESIDENT. YOU HAVE THE FEDS. YOU WILL HAVE THE PEOPLE (75% OF AMERICA WOULD RIDE FOR YOU IF YOU IMPROVED THEIR LIVES BY FORCE).

So fukk it. Try to kill me so I can return the favor. The first time the feds find out an assassination plan against me you broadcast the death of politician responsible for it..

Whoever will REALLY fix this country can't be afraid of death breh.
I genuinely think it's not a fear of personal death that binds the hands that get to the oval office.

But a fear of how much collateral/affiliate deaths you might risk.

Threaten to kill me and you've made me a martyr.

Threaten to kill my entire bloodline and you've made me your man.

There's literally billions/trillions of dollars at play for something like Medicare for all.
Would take an uprooting of plenty of systems and industry that has so much money riding on it continuing as is.

You think they won't murder your wife, children, grandchildren, siblings and their lineage, etc.

Just to leave you alone at the end of it all, successful but broken because everyone that really mattered to you is dead and buried?

No one is saying Obama should be doing this agenda.

Obama did have way more latitude and a mandate to use the vast powers of the presidency in more forceful ways on the opposite end of this Trump agenda and to exert his popularity over the Dems to bend his way

The one thing I give Trump as president is that he treats that shyt like the most powerful position in the free world (since that's how the U.S. president is portrayed), for better or worse; generally the latter, depending on your demographic and financial status.

Though he could have been more forceful on a few things, Obama literally could not do things the way Trump is. It goes against who he was as a leader and president, and since he's the first, he has to be the "safe" example so that other black people can one day hold that office after him. And as somebody in here pointed out, what Obama said is more of a warning on the erosion of democracy, which is really the big takeaway.

Not to mention the assassination attempts and everything that people would have done to get him out of there at the first such signs.

Give an example of something he should have done (without congress) that is comparable to Trump setting the country on fire.
