But remember the ACA is "socialism", which drives home how far right we are as a nation with respect to our economics, social services, and attention granted to the middle class. If Obama or any other democrat suggested this plan to a country with universal health care, they'd consider him a right wing manic. The consequences of the triumph of the reagan revolution is a gift that keeps on giving to the middle class.

I agree 100%. One thing I don't short change the conservatives on is that they know how to control the conversation. It doesn't matter if they are in the minority. They shout to the world where the "center" is, where the "left" is. They make the true center more and more conservative. In a lot of social issues there is a true center, but in terms of economic and domestic policy they usually control the conversation with an iron fist.

The opposite was true economically during the 30s-60s . A lot of Republicans back then would be modern day moderate Democrats on the economic spectrum. We have discussed this before here:
