Prove that increasing the minimum wage not only causes a huge jump in inflation but will also make it harder to find a job.

SMH @ nikkas like you talking out they asses and ignoring simple facts.

Minimum wage has raised the standard of living for millions?

Right. Where are those individuals right now? Capitalism has raised the standard of living for millions.

This isn't about being a "c00n", its common sense. Unemployment will be a constant issue in this country for the many next years. Anyone paying attention can see this, even without this wage increase.

It will not get better and this will not make it better. Please try to see that this is not against President Obama. I want to prosperity as much as anyone, but this is not the way.

As I said earlier, wages do not matter if prices are affordable. Why doesn't he institute price controls, wouldn't it be better? None of those things work, that is why. Please try to look beyond the initial and think about how this will affect everyone in 5-10 years.

If you think jobs are leaving America now, just wait. Why do you think a company would ship its operations all the way to China and India? Because they like dealing with the lauguage barrier, long distance, learning curve, intellectual property theft, etc. No one wants to go there. Companies are escaping high costs. These are the perverse effects this would cause. A very popular thing companies do is shorten hours. You are now part-time instead of full time. Gradually the call center goes overseas.

I was at McDonalds once very late at night. I went to order and an Indian sounding person took my order. I was in a very caucasian area. I pulled up to the window and I only saw white people inside. I was like wtf. Did someone in India just take my order at the drive through?

This isn't just economics, this is about business too.

If you own a business one of your toughest jobs will be to beat down costs. Cost always want to raise. If you don't pay attention to your costs, you will wake up one day and realize that you have been breaking even or not making any money at all. This would be an open assault on small business owners(don't care too much about corporations).

As usual corporations will take the hit and put smaller companies out of business, when their competitors are out cold they will raise prices. This is how those multinationals roll.

fuk up with that Libertarian bullshyt. Maybe we should all accept getting paid $5.00 a day so we can compete with Chinese and Indian workers.

Most jobs that pay minimum wage are service jobs that can't be exported. For jobs that can be exported, we need to give tax breaks to company that keep their jobs here in the U.S.

fukk this mindset of letting transnational corporations set the rules.

The same capitalism that put millions out of work through unchecked greed? The same capitalism that sends jobs overseas because they can exploit cheap labor due to no federal oversight?

There are plenty of jobs available in America, it's just there aren't enough people qualified to fill them. Upping the minimum wage is a good idea to me, but there will still be more people with "minimum wage" skills than minimum wage jobs available.

This sounds good, but are there any facts to back this up?

I'd those jobs were REALLY in demand the corporation would be hiring the most qualified and investing that person to get up to speed

bx all day
as a manager in a resturant two things are going to happen

1- more money which is cool for the workers

2- more people will be cut, the people making 9 will have less people to work with so it'll be like double the work. But hell if I was making 9 in HS I would work like a race horse

Was this the case when we went to 5.15 to 7.25? I don't think so

Oh, and didn't the government have to bail out a bunch of guys who knew basic economics to the tune of nearly a trillion dollars? Those same economic wizards that nearly tanked the GLOBAL economy with their vast economic know how?

Yeah, those guys. :heh:

I will come back on later. I'm still at work.

I just wanted to add something, since you brought it up.

Okay my understanding of the financial crisis is that Mortgage Institutions were allowed to sell their mortgages to Frannie and Freddie. This caused banks to not really care about who they were lending to since they wouldn't be holding the hot potato. There are a lot of other factors such as the Community Reinvestment Act which caused them to lower lending standards, derivatives, etc.

Anyhow, most of the people at the top took advantage and made a killing. Yes it was those who didn't know, couldn't see, didn't care, such as myself that were :wow:.

It was then that I decided that I needed to know what was going on in the economy. I didn't like the feeling of being caught off guard, while politicians told lies and bailed out their buddies. You only live once, it is better to learn these lessons while you are young. Take the loss and move on.

Several

The number of listings & recruiters specializing in tech jobs
The constant influx of folks on H1B visas to get PhDs and take positions like doctors and engineers
The difference in pay for someone working in IT vs someone working in say, social services

And corporations are hiring the most qualified folks and investing heavily in them, be it by paying for more education/certifications or anything.
