Republican support for Putin jumped 60 points from 2014 and 40 points from August 2016 alone. What the hell is "essentially the same pattern" about the other graph? It ain't remotely close.
(maybe you didn't see that the Russia chart goes all the way back to the Cold War. Most of that is irrelevant talking about today's politics. Look at the stretch from 2014 if you want to compare it to the second graph).
According to both graphs from 2014 to 2016 favorability was rising slightly with Democrats being steadily "more favorable" towards Russia/Putin. In 2016, Republicans became more favorable towards Russia/Putin, and the divide became more pronounced. How could you possibly not see that?
Also, 50 years ago isnt irrelevant.
