Rob O’Neill identified as Navy SEAL who shot and killed Osama Bin Laden
The heroic, highly-decorated military veteran from Montana was first identified on SOFREP.com, a website that caters to military personnel. His dad, Tom O’Neill, confirmed his son is the brave SEAL who took out Bin Laden in 2011. But military colleagues of the younger O’Neill have ostracized him for speaking out.
The hero Navy SEAL Team Six member who shot and killed 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden has been unmasked.
His name is Rob O’Neill, a 38-year-old highly-decorated military veteran who retired from the Navy after 16 years.
O’Neill, who grew up in Butte, Montana, was first identified on SOFREP.com, a website that caters to military personnel....

ISIS is probably going to focus on getting revenge. O'Neill sunglasses, Hannah Montana, just everything.

This SEAL Six shyt is becoming a shyt show. between mark Owen and this guy, and the open letter to the Teams...these guys cannot and do not keep their mouths shut. I'm not getting into the geeky "Who is better, SEAL Six (DEVGRU) or Delta (CAG)" but Delta do their jobs and stay the fukk quiet.

I bet the next big mission profile goes back to Delta. They got Hussein. DEVGRU got Osama. Some of it is based on where they operate, and DEVGRU has operated a lot in Afghanistan while Delta has operated a lot in Iraq, but you gotta believe that somewhere people are fukking tired of these SEALs not shutting up.

I wonder how safe this guy is now?

a day after the memo goes out scolding the team for talking about the event

Even that memo got shytted on too.

The letter has most likely created less unity and more strife among the active duty and veteran SEAL community. So much so that former Navy SEAL and FBI Special Agent (also a frequent FOX news commentator) Jonathan Gilliam felt compelled to write a direct response to Admiral Losey himself.

“Please explain to our community how sending an open letter to your “Teammates” through the press, preaching about the quiet professional, was somehow the proper example to your fellow SEALs.

Naval Special Warfare Command (NSWC) has a list of who we are. The UDT/SEAL Association has our emails. Instead, you chose to further the unprofessional and dysfunctional perception growing in the public’s eye by flexing your pen in a public forum. Perception is reality regardless of the incredible community we actually are. Your inability to enforce the rules and set standards within the Navy is the biggest hindrance to our brand, even more than any other particular SEAL. You proved it by sending that letter publicly.”

I personally think these guys should be prosecuted...but free country I guess.

This shyt should truly be classified.

It's truly a new day when these guys can't fukking take a secret to the grave.

I believe it was "Grey Fox"/ISA that got Osama but I heard even they switch names every so often.

Too bad. They signed up for it.

I remember reading about this guy months ago. He didn't get his pension because he quit too soon.

Yeah dude. That's what happens. Should there be a different set of rules for them to touch their money? Maybe. But I cant respect this sort of thing.

I left at 16 years and needed 20 for pension. They say SEALs are 1 inch shorter when they leave because of the boats ramming on tops of their heads and compressing their spinal discs. I do think those guys shouldn't get their pensions treated as regular Navy gys. Especially DEVGRU (SEAL Team 6). Those guys have to spend several deployments on regular teams, then train for DEVGRU, then maybe get a few deployments with them until they get killed or severely injured.

That's beside the point. What I think the shooter honestly did was he saw Mark Owen's success, and I think he quit the Navy hoping for a book deal, movie deal, or some kind of consulting gig. I think Mark Owen and the publishing company got the lawsuits, all the trouble from the Pentagon, and I think publishers didn't want to touch him, and now his money making potential is way lower, due to timing.

Ultimately he just tried to catch the wave and timed it wrong.

EDIT: If you don't know who mark Owen is, it's the pen name of the SEAL standing behind the shooter, the 2nd guy that went through the door. He also shot Osama, after Osama was on the floor, and wrote the book No Easy Day, detailing the raid. He has 2 interviews on 60 minutes. One in 2012, and one from the other week, that can be seen here:

There used to be a time when no one knew you were a Navy SEAL until long after you were discharged. You would die with all your Navy SEAL secrets and stories except with whatever you shared with your wife and your Navy SEAL co-workers. Operational security reasons, or OPSEC if you want to sound super cool.
