Way of the Samurai series; they got shyt production values but they're basically games where you have branching storylines that determine what ending you get and even if you die you get graded as a Samurai and when you start over you still have the money and swords from your previous playthroughs. Never played part 2 so I can't recommend, but the original and part 3 are my shyt. Part 4 was growing on me but then it stopped when I upgraded to Windows 10 for some reason.
Yakuza series; we're in a gaming forum so ya'll might've heard of this shyt but most people haven't... anyway this shyt is a brawler with really engrossing storylines. I really loved part 3 so when I saw part 4 was coming out and you play through the story as 4 different characters I thought the series was for sure gonna jump the shark but it was even better than 3

Hagane; this shyt is a Super Nintendo game that I never heard of til a couple years ago but it's a pretty incredible 2d action platformer.
I know this list makes me sound like a fukkin weeaboo but that's purely coincidental... let me throw in a non japanese game...
This shyt probably wasn't obscure when it came out, but I doubt most kids now ever heard of it.... pretty fukkin great RTS. fukk the Core, #ArmSquad
