There is nothing natural or normal about being a compulsive, its actually a defect or disorder.
That people seem to seek out life advice from people who were lucky to play a game for a living is fukking absurd to me.
Would you take life advice from a pro-video gamer, even if they made millions? I wouldn't, so why would you take life advice from a pro basketball or football player

It's that whole "gift and a curse" thing. Wright Thompson had that excellent article on Michael Jordan back in 2013.

The obsessive competitiveness that helps makes Jordan and other highly successful athletes so successful also is unhealthy in everyday life. The guy used to get so mad from losing Monopoly games at UNC that he'd pick up the board, toss it, and storm out the room.

Sports Illustrated had an article illustrating the differences between Kobe and his father. His father was very talented too, but more laid-back and competitive like a "normal" person, not obsessive about it:

The article concluded with something like "the difference in their mindsets is why Joe Bean was never a great player, but happy and satisfied, and Kobe is a great player, but may never truly be satisfied and happy"

If he had a passion for elevating teammates he might have won more without crying about not having help and threatening to leave LA for Chicago.
But that's none of my business.

Not Kobe's fault bron couldn't beat Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis to meet him in the finals :hhh:
Phil Jackson knew how to coach back when he was getting prime Jeannie Buss puss. But It wasn't hard to motivate borderline psychopaths though.
Kobe comparing AI to a helpless seal is a false equivalence.
