With the Kinect hate at the end, its clear you are not exactly a fan of what Microsoft is doing.
Now most people in that position hate from afar. Because they are stans, so they dont try out the products they hate on. And they downplay any new product from that company. In this case, its you and this deal MS has with Rift. So you cannot even fathom the bigger picture. Or even the REAL picture in its current form
The current form has you playing in a room. What you didn't think of is how big the screen will APPEAR TO YOU with the headset on. I 10in screen? 50in? 100in? I know the Xbox camera Hololens does the same thing and the screen is supposed to be scalable to a huge size (forgot what they said)

I expect similar with this. It will appear like you are in a room playing on a humongous TV

lol... And the Project Morpheus is just as useless or even more... VR is meant for head end PC gaming, the PS4 like the Xbox One wont be able to handle VR due to not having the required SPECS. PS4(and the Xbox One) already is barely able to do 1080p with steady framerates. The only games you're going to get is games with lower res and crappy frame rates. The deal with MS is obviously NOT for the Xbox One. Anyone with an IQ above 70 knows that, its marketed towards Windows 10, which MS has been marketing as a gaming OS. So no its not dumb.

I just laugh at hypocrisy.
