Name any DMV artist and guaranteed I can find some local haters.
And I'm someone who lived there (all over).
Oddisee is probably top 3 most successful (rap)artist from the DMV - he has toured the world many times over.
He's not rah-rah, stays humble and speaks up for righteous causes.
So whoever hating him in the DC area is a scrub without question.

Are you saying Substantial doesn't have haters in the DMV?
His intellectual and conscious subject matter along with his traditional hiphop sound selection already turns off the younger trap/808 raps fans who hate anything sounding 90s-ish or even Kanye/Jay-Z.
I'm not saying Substantial sounds like either but I move in different circles and there is a cut-off when it comes to certain sounds and timelines and while I don't wanna make age/clout a deciding factor it definitely has an effect on how people feel about certain artists.
And if we gonna keep it 100 there are hella people in the DMV who have never even heard of:
Oddisee
Kev Brown
Kokayi
Substantial
etc etc

and some folks will make that a hate-point ("I never head of them so they cant be making noise")
and then when you try to hip them ("aww this some old school lyrical spiritual jonk....naw moe")

Yeah his fanbase is definitely an older demographic (30+) but some of his stuff can be played in the whip for sure.
He has a pretty good fanbase but he does not tour nearly as extensively as Oddisee.
Substantial has made more collab albums but Oddisee is a producer and has made more instrumental albums not including his projects with vocals. I'm a fan of both artist by the way
