8 plates is a whole fukkin lot to me.
It's pretty much common terminology to me that in gym speak when people say a # of plates on the bar they're talking about plates on each side. That's why for example when someone says they finally got 3 plates up it makes sense because there's obviously not an uneven amount of plates (total) on the bar. 3 plates on the bar means 3 on each side. So 8 plates would mean your working out with some of the strongest people on all of earth.

Not trying to say you lying but you probably meant 4 plates not 8. Or your gym uses different terminology then what's widely accepted as the norm which is also possible.
