Ok, anything pertaining to "12 Years a Slave"...post that sh1t in here

Just finished watching it and I just feel numb. That movie blew me away. From the cinematography, to the casting, to the sets...can't commend Steve McQueen enough for making this film because it's a film that's been a long time coming and needed to be made...and not a cowboy in sight :steviej:

And I ain't afraid to say scene at the end when Solomon meets back up with the fam after being set free, made my eyes water a little!!!!! Makes "The Butler" look like fukkin Cinderella...

Standout performances from Ejiofor and the dark skin shorty who was the object of master Epp's desires. The scene where Epps forces Northup to whip her back to the white meat showed was horrific, brought it to life like it was happening right now

Nowww I could go on about moral slave issues (if master asks you to whip a girl like that, do you do it or just let the muhfukka take your life), or revolt issues always made more apparent when you watch films about slavery (we outnumbered them muhfukkas 10-1, why didn't we revolt more? Sure we would have taken some casualties but I'm sure they would have started taking us more serious a lot sooner) BUT this thread is JUST about the movie. Take the politics somewhere else, ya dig?

Also, can a historian tell me, did free blacks at the pinnacle of slavery help the struggle or just c00n about town?

*The n-word is forbidden from this thread*

Will never fall for the bullshyt and support a film like this. Slave, Butler, nikka in a dress...fukk Hollywood. It's not for black people. They don't respect us, our history, or our culture. fukk if the movie was based off a true story. fukk if the director was black. Why the fukk do major motion pictures about blacks being treated like shyt keep getting critical acclaim?

Since Hollywood likes to make the same movie over and over again, lets have another Malcom X movie. Hollywood would be like:whoa: one already came out 20 years ago. What about some major release about our African dynasties? They would be like, we can't fund that, but we could fund a movie about some slave shyt:smugdraper:

And miss me with that it's our history shyt. nikka my Momma taught me black history independently. She is a very Afrocentric women and made sure I knew my past. I spent mad time at the Urban League in Chicago where she worked when I was younger. I READ BOOKS, attended poetry readings, story telling sessions, plays, participated in black youth groups, went to conferences, listened to debates, watched documentaries (made by my people) I don't need Hollywood to tell me my fukking history.

fukk that movie and anybody who loves it

Well recently, the black movies with "buzz" or award consideration have been Django, The Butler, 12 Years a Slave. To be fair, we did have Fruitville Station this year. But where are the positive major releases about my people at? Tyler Perry is the top black director:mjlol:

I mean, he cool, but if we not gonna have a mainstream black director that's pushing the boundaries to counter that shyt, then :camby:

Black people are not represented right in Hollywood. We need more films that show how smart we are, not fake ass Spaghetti Westerns about slavery, and we definitely don't need pillars of the black community like Oprah Winfrey supporting movies called the fukking Butler. Like, what happened to the black Superheroes?
We are regressing when it comes to Hollywood. It seems as if we had more, and a wider variety of black films back in the day.

The problem is that black directors are so busy waiting for jews to fund their projects. They should organize and create small budgeted flicks, that they can sell via independent outlets and build that way. While Tyler is a flaming homo and in general makes terrible movies, he literally built his empire from scratch. Dude used to tour the entire country putting on plays. Now he makes movies that make him millions, all while owning his own shyt. There is no reason why Spike Lee, the Hughes Bros, or any of these other prominent directors shouldn't have the same wealth and influence in the industry.

The young gen needs to step up and make these movies for the new gen audience. Spike dropped Do the right thing when he was like 21-22! With all these 4K cameras going for $200 on Amazon, access to high quality imaging equipment and processing has never been more accessible.

I blame the youth for the lack of varied images your looking for.

Yeah, I can't argue with this at all. Black directors need to be more self contained, cause you are at the mercy of others when you require funding. And I can't hate on Tyler the businessman, because he is definitely doing his thing i that arena, and that is a win for the culture overall.

I just feel like black filmaking is at an all time low right now.

This why I have a problem with this movies
here you asking, why didn't they revolt

If were a child, raised from birth, this white man is your father and your less than a dog, and this what you are taught to believe from birth
how would ever find the resolve to revolt

The slaves were separated from their parents at BIRTH for a reason, the reason was mind control
the say way a Pimp will take a young runaway and turn her into a hoe, because a child's mind can shaped
