Promptly after securing a bronze medal in luge — the U.S.’s first ever — Erin Hamlin took her medal to teammate Kate Hansen for a special blessing.
Hansen, as you may recall, has developed the greatest way to warm up before competing in luge. Hamlin explained on Instagram the medal needed to be “dance-blessed” which means that now everyone will want their medal dance-blessed, which means that Kate Hansen will become a dance-blessing shaman, which means that this is starting to get weird.

NBC showed Hansen’s dancing prior to her second run on Monday. As the [dance] clip played, announcer Leigh Diffey treated it with the amusement it deserved. His partner in the booth, former American luger Duncan Kennedy wasn’t nearly as impressed.
"I would like to see something a little more sports specific from her. What you see out of the top runners, the really heavy hitters, is they’re working those start muscles, they’re working the low back, they’re working the arms and the shoulders and getting the power out of them. Because the start has to be a powerful, explosive movement.
And while that might be a very good, general warm-up, I’m not sure it gets the job done for medal contention."
