I put this on Holmes as I've been saying all offseason. He didn't add any real talent to this team in the offseason. Everything anyone was worried about came to fruition today.

Sure, it's only one week but the offensive line looks a lot worse. They could improve over the course of the season, but it's not gonna be what it was the past few seasons. They averaged 2.1 yards per carry. I'm sure the offense is gonna be a little different but play-action has always been something Goff plays best with.

The defensive line goes without question. They got nothing besides Hutch. Ignoring it like Holmes did this offseason was pure arrogance. There is no excuse for not adding anybody, even Smith, when they have $23+ million in cap space. It's indefensible.

The team went 15-2 last season, which was pure magic and wasn't gonna happen again. To not recognize the window at hand and play the long game was malpractice by Holmes.

Lions - 0 sacks, 1 TFL, 2 QB hits
Packers - 4 sacks, 9 TFL, 9 QB hits

Again, o lines are most effective as they feel together as a unit. I feel like it's the most communication and having dependency on the guy next to you unit on the field. Individual talent matters of course, but you can still even exploit that with movement confusing the unit. They got some shyt to figure out, but the sky ain't falling

I'm not worried about the guards, they'll figure it out. Mahogany made some nice plays. But I am VERY concerned about Glasgow and I'm not sure there's any solution. Saw too many plays where he didn't touch a defender.

I'm not gonna say arrogant, because that's some 97.1 bullshyt. But it's clear they didn't think about this hard enough at either DT or DE. Yes, when Alim comes back he's gonna be good as usual. But we basically decided to ride it out at 3-tech with Levi (who didn't even make it to training camp) and a rookie. Did I want to overpay for a 30yo DT like multiple teams did? No. But today was basically the reason why many teams opt to do that. Then at DE we basically told the world our main focus is on setting edges. Well grats we stopped the run overall but couldn't touch Love.

That line does not look like it functions without Alim (and Levi).

Yikes. What the hell was that
A week 1 team with 2 new coordinators, a new interior o-line with 2 rookies and down a top 3 center, and no preseason snaps for the first team. So some really ugly ball. I predict the end product will look a lot better than the start as long as they don't pile on the injuries like last season.

Another thing that just came to mind...this offense looks bad when we don't have an X receiver out there who Goff can rely on. The minute Josh Reynolds joined the team, the offense took off. Last season Tim Patrick played a key role. Today, we were out there without an X for much of the game. And when TeSlaa finally got some playing time he made the only great play of the game. Goff needs a big guy out there running dig routes.

Glasgow cooked. Ratledge will be starting at some point this year at Center. Hopefully Decker still has enough in tank to be avg rest of year

Penny pinching like shyt is a given. Yall shytted on me for getting on them for blowing it in San Fran a few years ago. They’ll be back. Nah Dan was right, they may never get back no time soon.

So. Cal
:mjlol:I have no problem admitting when Im wrong

Still not impressed by Packers. This was horrific performance by Lions. Knew oline would take a step back but not this much

The zero mobility from QB position is a killer. Goff is gonna have a terrible year.
CTE in fans is starting to show :francis:

A lot of the TV talking heads will be exiting on this team tomorrow. Probably shifting to the Packers. My guess is Green Bay will likely win the NFC North as the Lions figure things out and the Vikings adjustment to a new QB.

At some point Holmes has to admit that his view on injured player value is NOT working. Everyone knew Alim would miss at least half the season. Yes we drafted a 3-tech but it's wild that the plan was for Levi to carry the load until Alim got back. Surprise, he got injured. Before training camp. How many examples are we gonna string together of guys who we bet on with a cheap contract (or 2nd round pick) only for them to not play. Moseley, Levi, Carlton Davis, Davenport, Rakestraw, etc.

Having depth guys with injury issues? Fine. But all these guys have been expected to make significant contributions. Major reason we didn't sign Zadarius is because Davenport is making 1.7mil and was pegged as a starter, so they didn't want to bring in somebody making more than that lol. When we could have simply signed Z early for a heavy incentive deal and re-signed Davenport for depth. This shyt is killing us...

Brad Holmes has overall done a great job but he failed this offseason not addressing another pass rusher opposite Hutchinson.

Also I was very worried how we would look without Ragnow. Just as I expected we looked bad. His loss was worse than losing Ben Johnson.

I think we get into the playoffs but only as a 5-7 seed. This is gonna be a long season and I'm not gonna get too worked up over everything

Nobody on Detroit can say this. :francis:

Apologists talking about “we want a sustained run” like we have Brady and Mahomes. There’s a window and when it shuts, big money receivers and safeties aren’t gonna keep it open
