McDaniel interviewing for HC positions made it dicey to wait for him. I get it.

That being said this better work or Campbell needs to be on the hot seat. I'm tired of being told this is a coveted location, OC is a coveted job only for us to end up with Dan's buddy (Morton) or a guy Arizona fans hated. Granted he's going to have significantly better personnel to work with but we said the same thing about Morton when excusing his weak resume. At least this guy is young and is viewed as a bright mind.

I really like what I'm hearing about him running a lot of 13 personnel. Watching the Rams this year felt like a revelation. That's the type of shyt you'd think Dan Campbell would be very interested in, yet this organization has put next to no emphasis on the TE position besides LaPorta. We need to invest in a couple, whether the draft or free agency.

That tweet makes it sound like it. We probably won't get the full story though.

I think people are misquoting. It said Campbell liked McDaniel a lot but the organization didn't think he was a good fit. We also have no indication McDaniel was going to accept the job anytime soon, given he has better options (head coach in Bufalo/Baltimore, or head coach-in-waiting in Tampa). Campbell has final hiring say, this wasn't Holmes. I assume Dan fukks with McDaniel but doesn't think he fits the culture. Which is stupid but at the end of the day...this is gonna float or sink that shyt. It's his ass that will be on the hotseat if this doesn't work. Buffalo and Baltimore are a preview of how this will go if things don't turn around: Campbell out, Holmes survives. Not saying that happens at the end of the 2026/2027 season but if this team flops again he's gonna be on notice. And I'm fine with that.

This culture shyt is how you end up deciding to soft bench your second best pass rusher (AQM) because he's not perfect in the run game. It's how you make guys play hurt who should sit for another week (or two). It's how you burn three 3rd round picks on a WR in a draft full of guys with that body type who could put up similar numbers. I really think this shyt gotta go. Part of it is Holmes but I think the dominant problem is Campbell. If your locker room can't handle one guy who isn't 100% bought into your culture then your culture has a problem. I genuinely think this has a direct impact on defense. Especially d-line. Rotating d-lineman to keep them fresh is a staple throughout the league yet we'd rather run guys into the ground (Hutch and Alim especially) because that means they're tough. Go look at Seattle and tell me having waves of bodies isn't better than Alim (fresh off an ACL) playing 60 snaps a game. This shyt has to stop and IMO it starts with Campbell.

Lions need to draft a TE or two. LaPorta, Brock, and another TE will allow us to actually run the shyt he wants to run.

I've seen people say the hire makes the TeSlaa pick even worse but I'll wait. TeSlaa became a good blocker as the season progressed. We won't be in 13 personnel all the time, I'd expect 3 receiver sets a lot too. And I think TeSlaa offers a lot of value when in 12, since he can essentially operate as a TE.

I think Holmes and Campbell are hand-in-hand on most things. Holmes is the one still scoffing at the idea of being aggressive this offseason. He wants players that fit a certain mold as well. I'm sure that also applies to coaches. If Holmes really wanted McDaniel, he'd be the OC.

McDaniel went to the Chargers to be their OC. Didn't even take a HC position. Just terrible.
Probably should wait until they put a product on the field to judge this. Who are you or I to tell Campbell who works with him like that?

I can point to every OC besides Ben Johnson, but please, continue to act obtuse.

Lions had a top 5 offense with a bad Oline and suspect playcalling. Campbell probably doesn’t want to change offense. Mcdaniels would want full control. Does make sense honestly. Mcdaniels trying to audition for next head coaching gig not run Campbells offense
