So at this point (football and basketball), I have no idea what any kid expects on a team these days. Every team cant have 12 1st options. And every kid isnt a first option to begin with. So, money aside, what do kids want these days on teams?

$$$ and minutes

It's cats getting a lion's share of the minutes and touches jumping in the portal. It's the wild west now. Those days are long gone.

well its money as well rj luis big east player of the year avg like 18 and 7

Villanova paid 1.7 mill to keep Eric Dixon

I feel sorry for the smaller schools like new mexico is losing donovan dent, got a nice big bag from UCLA but new mexico just can't compete with that

honestly the NIL to me is the best thing to happen to college basketball in a long while. If you're not a top 15 pick you'd be foolish to leave as you can make comparable money and actually develop or even more money than you'd make in the g league or overseas.

A dude like mark sears or zeigler at tenn will probably never play in the nba but will leave college a millionaire. A guy like caleb love or tyrese proctor would have left school already and prob been a second rounder rotting in the g league or overseas but they are still in school

So how does this improve college basketball as a whole?

Im happy that the players are getting what they can earn in NIL deals, but the question is: Is the game overall better then it was in the 90s? 2000s? 10 years ago?

Yes it is! I enjoy college basketball more now than I did growing up.

Players today are more athletic, better shooters, and overall more skilled. The three-point shot is a bigger factor, and spacing has improved. As well the transfer portal and NIL have balanced the competition.

Also for the most part the game is faster, with more emphasis on transition play and offense and games are easier to watch with streaming services, and social media has increased player visibility.

NIL didn't balance the competition. It funneled the competition exclusively to the power schools.

100% agree I also like as you said how it’s not as different from the nba now. Them 62-60 games used to be a chore to watch lmao tbh I think that’s the real reason all the old head coaches are retiring
