Just saw this. Everything was pointing to the Return of the Mack. lol
Some cac on the Xavier board was even saying a PJ flew to Charleston to come up here today.
Yet...

I think Pitino is an upgrade over Miller in 2025.

Pitino made the tournament twice with Minnesota, which is no easy feat. They've since not been back. Cincinnati is a significantly more fertile recruiting grounds with Ohio, Indy & KY right there. All the good players that come out of MN leave the state or transfer to better programs after a year or 2, and they don't put any money into that program.

Xavier is the healthiest basketball program in the entire state too.

Anyone familiar with how Juco basketball used to operate back in the 80-90's? Rules about transfers were just words on paper. It's wild to see D1 basketball turn into that.

To be clear I'm not against it. Long overdue for them to get paid.

The last day or so I warmed up to the idea of Xavier going after Pitino though I still didn't expect him to get the job. I would've gladly took Mack back but I also felt Xavier needed to go outside the "family" (the last time was when Matta got hired). We had our best years with Mack but a lot of us started wondering if he still had that fire. The Louisville fiasco humbled him and I'm not really sure he wanted to go back towards the big time. I don't even think he wants to coach much longer. Seems like Charleston is the best spot for him hence why he's staying. His name wasn't on anyone else's radar either.
Pitino is younger and I like the energy he could bring here. Seems like most X fans are on board with the hire. Some are still going to hold his Minnesota run against him or that he might not stay long. Xavier's long been a stepping stone kind of program so it is what it is. As long as he brings in good recruits and wins (especially in the tournament) I'm with it. Swain and Hugley are in the portal but haven't heard about Conwell yet. If he could somehow convince Conwell to stay and bring over Dent (wishful thinking I know lol), that would be one helluva backcourt. Ultimately, it was long overdue for a real shakeup in the program.

08 Kansas vs 2012 Kentucky who are you taking? Both stacked teams full of pros. I think Kansas definitely played and beat the better teams in 08 (UNC and Memphis). Overall Anthony Davis is the best player on the floor between both teams. I don't know who wins that game.
12' UK over 08' KU. If Memphis made their free throws we would be having a different convo on 08' KU. CDR and D-Rose going 1-4 at the line, with a 2 pt lead and 16 seconds left. AD was a monster in 12' and I don't Kabsas would've had anything for him.
