Don't think there's a chance in hell Sasse or Hogan ever become the nominee for the Republican ticket unless they pledge their undying loyalty to Trump. Trump is their new Reagan and anyone who doesn't fall in line will be branded a RINO. Best bet for a national ticket would be if the Lincoln Project guys decide to form their own political party (Lincoln Party) for disenfranchised Republicans who aren't Trumpanzees.

Agreed. If he loses in 2020 then the Tucker Carlsons will claim that he wasn't far to the right enough, but the actual strategists will know that they need to appeal to people other than rednecks to win.
They can't even rely on boomers anymore because Biden seems to be doing well with the senior vote.

You guys bugging if you think republican centrists are coming back. Jen Bush raised a huge amount of money in 2015/2016, in part to prevent Romney from getting in the race. He still got blasted not only by Trump but the other right wing candidates.
If Trump loses, his supporters will say he was betrayed by the establishment GOP. We will see another “make America great again” call as multiple republicans vie for Trump’s base. Republicans aren’t stupid. Unlike democrats they aren’t going to run a primary where multiple candidates shyt on a president who is popular with the base. We saw how that ended for democrats: Biden won.

Yeah. The way they see it, the GOP ran moderates back to back and lost both times. But at the same time, I don't think the average GOP voter is extremely committed to populist purity like populist twitter seems to think.

Agreed. They aren’t real populists, it’s a feint and people on both sides allow them to get away with it. How many times has Trump made some obviously BS comment about healthcare only for leftists to immediately respond with praise and “wow he’s out flanking democrats on the left.” Then when he obviously never comes thru on the promise, leftists say nothing. It’s a joke. Trump is not a populist. He’s a right wing crook.
I don’t believe the next republican will carry on Trump’s trade war.
