Last year, the Blue Jays finished with a 74-88 record and finished dead last in the AL East. They had a run differential of -70. They allowed 743 runs. 22th ranked team in runs allowed. They scored 671 runs. 26th best offense.
This season, a year later they finished a 94-68 record and won the AL East/AL Beast division, and clinched top seed in the American League with a run differential of +77. They scored 798 runs, 127 more runs than last year. They were 4th best team in the league when it comes to scoring runs this year. And they allowed 721 runs, so only 22 less than last year.
They had 20 more wins and 20 less losses this season. They’ve improved in most aspects of the game from last year. Hitting of course but also pitching and fielding. All statistics prove it. They had more base hits than any other team in the league. They drew more walks than last year. They allowed less runs than last year. They scored more runs per game than last year, they had more RBIs (runs batted in) than last year, they had a Much Better OBP ( on base percentage) , BABIP, (batting average on balls in play )much better batting average(offensive statistic)much better batting average against( pitching statistic) much better slugging percentage(offensive statistic) they fared much better when it comes to defensive runs saved(fielding statistic), etc. They are 11th best team at hitting homeruns but it’s a good thing because they don’t only rely on homeruns as their only offensive strategy to score runs and win games. And they are the 3rd worst team at stealing bases(ranked #28 out of 30) I guess we need to add more players with blazing speed on our roster during the offseason .
What a difference a year makes. Last year we got eliminated from playoff contention on September 20, 2024 after a 1-0 loss in Tampa bay. Then a week later, we got swept by the equally disappointing and mediocre Miami marlins in the last 3-game series of the season at home (September 27-28-29, 2024 )
and a year later, we clinched a playoff spot on September 21, 2025, then a few days later we swept the Tampa bay rays at home in our last 3-game series (sep 26-27-28, 2025) to win the division and clinch the top seed in the American League playoffs
