Schneider wanted to show how smart he is and reassert his authority after getting embarrassed by Max. Whoops.

Who cares about lefty/righty. It’s a one run lead in the 8th. That’s what your best guys are for. Caught overthinking it.

The jays haven’t won a close game in the playoffs this year so far. If they score less than 5 runs, they will lose the game for sure. In September it only happened 3 times and only twice in August. The manager was a dunce but unless this offense goes off, they can’t win. They are the Edmonton oilers of the mlb, fatally flawed in one of the most critical areas, leverage relief.
Can you imagine Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernandez, and Freddie Freeman vs this bullpen?

I don’t think momentum actually matters to game to game in baseball….we know the mariners right now will have two chances to win the AL pennant.
But now we have no margin for error thank to the manager and a dressing room that’s probably lost some faith in the manager to make the right decision.
It takes a lot to get to this point. I have said for months they probably wouldn’t have gotten this far if they had to play the wildcard series. To have our manager make a completely Stupid decision at the most critical point in the season, 2 innings from having an elimination game to get to the WS, has to demoralize the team, if only slightly, but enough. But our jays are a resilient and resourceful team. I expect them to bounce back at home and win both Games 6-7 to win the pennant and advance to the World Series for the first time since 1993.

We can compete with them offensively even without Bichette and Santander. And if we advance to the WS, we will have home field advantage against the dodgers.
Toronto finished with a 94-68 record this year while the Los Angeles Dodgers finished with a 93-69 record. LAD beat TOR two times in their 3-game series in LA last august but it didn’t matter because we still finished with a better record than them.
Thanks God for the work of Blue Jays hitting coach David Popkins this season
Otherwise I don’t see any other advantages we might have over them.
their pitching staff(starters and bullpen ) is much better than ours as a whole.
Championship pedigree/Playoff experience: on our team, we only have George springer (2017 WS winner with Houston ) but the dodgers have Freddie freeman(2021 WS with the Braves and was the WS MVP last year) shohei ohtani, teoscar Hernandez, kike Hernandez, max muncy, mookie betts( three time world series champion: 2018, 2020, 2024)etc
Manager : Dave Roberts is a better and more experienced manager than John Schneider.

Excuse me to bring this up again, but I still can’t believe it even hours after the end of game 5
Schneider used his best relievers /high leverage guys in game 4 against the heart of their batting order in a blowout type of game and then last night, he used possibly his worst pitcher in the 8th inning of the ALCS 2-1 game with a chance to go up in the series. It doesn’t get dumber than this.
If this was a collective decision through modern baseball analytics, that’s even worse
If the jays lose this series, I will never forgive Schneider for his bullpen management/decision. It’s been 32 years this team hasn’t won the AL pennant. Last time we were this close was 2015-16. I’ve been waiting almost 10 years since then
