If you are in souther california check out the huntington library. Its a big botanical garden where you can walk around for a while and look at plants from around the world. Some plants are interesting and others are not but what is most important is the buffer it provides for you to talk to someone you are interested in. If your mother is in town this is also a good idea because you look like a cultured son as you take her for a brisk walk to look at plants. I have walked through there for 3 hours easy.

You can have a good time here cheap. There are meat factories where women congregate for no reason on all corners of the city for free. Whenever my family comes in town they are upset they did not purchase a rental car.
