Hate to say it that is pretty much the premise of the Candyman films, But it was more about hatred than anything. The sequels made the character have that King Kong syndrome. This new one is going to be basically about gentrification and race.

Candyman was a white dude in the book with no real backstory other than an urban legend and the short story was set in Liverpool. And Barker didn't have anything to do with the movie.

Just checked out that tweet and the little 6 second vid of characters in the movie saying "Candyman"...didn't realize that Curtis from MISFITS was in it.
