'Dark Side of the Ring' Trailer: Bret Hart Talks Punching Vince McMahon

Viceland is exploring the ugly side of the professional wrestling business with new docuseries “Dark Side of the Ring,” which features interviews with WWE alums Bret Hart, Bruce Prichard, Jim Cornette, Jake “The Snake” Roberts and more.

Narrated by legendary booker, wrestler and manager Dutch Mantell, the six-episode series will examine the collision of fantasy and reality in the singular universe of professional wrestling, the only sport whose stars’ larger-than-life characters exist in and often out of the ring, telling some of the dark and untold stories around some of the sport’s all-time greats — stories that obsess hardcore wrestling fans and will compel new viewers alike.

Viceland’s description continues:

From backstage controversies to mysterious deaths and unsolved homicides, this series explores the darkest stories from the golden age of professional wrestling — with each episode centered on a professional wrestling icon, including the tragic love story of Randy “Macho Man” Savage and Miss Elizabeth, the infamous “Montreal Screwjob” which stripped Bret Hart of his title, the locker room altercation that led to the death of Bruiser Brody, as well as the dark history of the Von Erich wrestling dynasty, the controversial death of “Gorgeous” Gino Hernandez and a look at the intense allegations against legendary female star The Fabulous Moolah.

During the docuseries, Hart talks about decking WWE chairman Vince McMahon backstage over the “Screwjob,” which gets the reenactment treatment, according to the trailer.

“I popped him right off the ground,” the aptly nicknamed “Hitman” says.

Readers can watch the trailer above.

“Dark Side of the Ring” is from Vice Canada and produced by Evan Husney and directed by Jason Eisener. Ed Hatton is series producer and Viceland’s Chris Grosso is executive producer. It debuts Wednesday, April 10 at 9/8c on Viceland.

The director was on the Jim Cornette Experience, and I am super curious to watch the Gino Hernandez episode most of all. They delve into his questionable parentage and whether or not he was murdered. Apparently the scoop is that people believe Gino was one of Paul Boesch's side kids.

Only got to really know about the Von Erich's story through The Lapsed Fan.

That shyt is so demonic. The Brody shyt and the fallout afterwards was straight :merchant:

Vice also has a series by Damien Abraham from fukked Up about wrestling all over the world that they haven't put out.

It sounds dope - from what I've heard they go to Japan, Chile, The Congo and a few other places and look at the various scenes in those countries.:ehh:

Im curious to see how Vice will tackle most of these stories which Youtubers, podcasters, sheets and shoot interview DVDs have already covered already fairly extensively. The Lapsed Fan podcast did an incredible job with the Von Erichs and Montreal
I guess it will be cool for a non wrestling company to approach the stories but I dont know how new the info will be.

That said Im worried the Randy Savage one gonna be on some Me Too abuse relationship shyt :mjcry:
