Respecting hip-hop culture is to respect its history and roots. If you don't know who Tribe is, fine, but don't be proud about it, and especially don't be condescending about it, and go do your research. It's not like Tribe is some obscure 90's act, they are literally one of the most influential hip hop groups of all time and their tree of influence includes Kendrick, Cole, Kanye, Jay-Z, Nas, Drake, Eminem, etc.

Personally speaking I have gone back and delved into the music of the 70's, 60's, 50's and 40's and have found gem after gem ....
