Do you think Trump cares about the ISS? He probably doesn't even know what it is. Elon is a huge welfare queen, those government contracts are necessary for the survival of his companies. Elon realizes he bet on the wrong horse, but only after it's kicked him in the teeth.

Elon is also the main contractor for building the Golden Dome Missile defense system as it requires complex rocket propulsion like what SpaceX has been working on so I think there’s a total net loss here.
