implies when Littlefinger gives Bran the Dagger made out of Valryin Steel, he gets visions about Littlefinger and all his bull shyt including framing the dagger and trying to kill Bran and also the moment he sees he sets up Ned Stark

"Do you know who this belonged to" = Bran knows it was Littlefinger's
"Chaos is a ladder" reference and scene = Bran knows Littlefinger set up everything because it was his plan to get what he wanted (at the time, Cat Stark and later, the Throne) which would require a war between the Starks and Lannisters to basically eliminate each other

I don't think there's much rhyme or reason to any of that. They're smart, but they're still animals. Drogon hadn't seen Dany for most of season 5 but he still showed up to save her. And Viserion and Rhaegal broke out to help her when the slavers attacked Meereen, despite the fact that she'd left them locked up for months.

On the flip side if they're hungry, I doubt they're gonna care how close they are to Dany. They're gonna eat whatever.
