By the end there was damn near no fear of people dying. It felt like the Walking Dead where you got people who will just survive no matter what.
I think they chickened out of killing people to avoid spoiling the books too. Like Arya is probably going to die in the books. There’s a part in the first book where Jon is kind of making fun of her about Needle and says something like “you’ll be sowing until the snows cover you.” Arya dying during the battle would have made sense. Especially if the Night King killed her and then Jon did his thing to avenge her.
For real. Even at the Battle of Winterfell they only had the guts to kill most of the Dothraki (

I actually think it's the other way around. Hard for them kill somebody off if he explicitly told them they survive to the end. At any rate the series ending before the books probably irrevocably changed things. He told D&D certain plot points, but until the book is published everything is still fluid and I'm guessing the poor reception to the show's end has him rethinking some things.
Not like we'll ever get any real resolution at this point.

Similar outcomes but Westworld was never meant to have more than 2, maybe 3 seasons tops. The concept of the park could only extend but so far before they had to make it into some other shyt. Those last couple seasons were wack but they were a cash grab and never should've been made in the first place. GoT on the other hand could still be on RIGHT NOW given all the depths they could've gone with the story.
